Note

After leaving Ansonia Nature Center the weekend essentially fell apart. The car started acting funny at the bottom of the hill - bad alternator. Fortunately I was able to walk to a repair shop while on the phone w/Roadside Assistance and get the car towed 3 whole blocks to this shop that was open till 6pm. The downside was that the only available alternator was a new one (as opposed to a rebuilt one) that cost me an extra $150. That was OK since my other option was to stay in Ansonia till Monday noon. The entire repair, which included a new battery, was an unfortunate amount....

So after a somewhat relaxing evening, we retired to our wind-savaged campsite where Bryn proceeded to get sick. No fever, but sick enough to not be able to move without needing a container until 11AM on Sunday. For the most part the ride home was uneventful, but she is still feeling the effects tonight. Needless to say, we missed Sunday's races.

This is all an encore to the trip from last year that Bryn and I took to the Flying Pig which had a similar car repair theme. (fortunately there was no sickness on that trip).

Orienteering 45:00 [3] *** 4.4 km (10:14 / km)
spiked:10/14c shoes: Mudclaw O+340

WCOC A-meet Ansonia - Left feeling a bit unsatisfied with my results having some medium sized errors on 3 of the controls. Most were due to uncertainty with the distance I had run on the leg and really made me realize that it was high time I added at least some rudimentary pace counting to my toolbox. Also, felt a bit slow on the hills. The event, course, map, etc were quite nice - my only complaint was I thought there should have been more distinct veg boundaries marked on the map. Whenever I came to an area that transitioned from almost all hardwoods to all pines, I looked a the map for some marking, but found none....

As mediocre as I thought I did, my ranking score was higher than normal - probably as result of several Reds running up for the WRE.

Note

Neck is feeling a little better and almost worthy of coming off the injury list. Unfortunately there is still some pain after quite a few weeks, so I will keep it on.
