Nice line-O course set out by turbodog at Mendon. First time really running one of these and it was interesting how many time I felt like I drifted off the line and had to go back a bit and check. Overall I felt I kept a pretty good pace for the level of contact I was keeping with the map and managed to find them all.

Orienteering Webster Park Red - not bad for my first meet of the year - although I was pretty unhappy with how tentative I was in the new/unfamiliar sections of the park. Physically I was surprised at how well I did, although my expectations going in were pretty low. Bobbled #3, #8 and #12 the worst. Lost about a minute at #3 when I forgot to look over the top of the embankment. My toe was must have been 12 inches from the bag yet I wandered around for another minute before finding it. Coming into #12 I did not aim off very good, got to the top of the slope and didn't know which way to go to find the right reentrant.

Overall, it felt great to run hard in the woods. Looking forward to the season.

GPS distance 5.2 miles

Must. Let. Go.....

Tyler is ready to sink or swim. But I tagged along on the white course anyway since Bryn and one of their friends came along. Tyler was pretty independent for all but a control or two and on those two he only needed help getting oriented north. Hopefully we can get Tyler out by himself at Mendon.
