H1 at Jumbuck Hill. Planned to take it easy from the start and try to read the map a bit better than yesterday. First control was easy, could see it as soon as I left the track. Caught Simon here because he had taken the right hand track up to the top of the hill and back down! My plan of taking it easy broke down a bit here as Simon ran away from me up the hill. I thought Simon had a better line than me here going a bit more right up the hill and avoiding the steep bit at the top of the gully mid leg but he never corrected and I crossed paths with him a bit later about 200m South of 2 as I headed to 3. Went over the top of the hill to 3 to avoid contouring on the steep slope. Good running the way I went but it was hard work. Slight miss at 3 going just above it at the end but realised quickly and probably stayed inside the circle and only lost 10 or 15 seconds. That would have been my biggest mistake today, 4 shows as a mistake but only because Steve got that one right and it had a significant climb. Had a little trouble on 6 because the right where I had folded my map and the feature had rubbed off but it was pretty easy in the end. Went straight on 8 as it was so open it didn't seem worth going to the track. Crossed paths with Komy struggling up the hill from 3-4, good to see he finished off strongly. 9 was fine once I made it up the hill. Had no idea where I was half way from 9-10 but saw the control directly in front of me from about 100m away. 11 was easy, down the creek to the big rocks. 12 looked a bit tricky and was made harder by passing Andre mid leg but I managed to stay calm and execute my plan catching Wayne at the control. Very distracted talking to Wayne on the way to 13 but it was right next to a big cliff on a creek so wasn't a problem. Spotted the cliff from a distance and managed to hit the boulder spot on so I pushed hard out of the control to try to get away from Wayne as 14 looked hard. Went high to come in off the big features above 14 but was still a bit unsure where I was at times so was relieved to find it without problem. Pushed the last couple hard to try to get in under the hour.

Nav Dash ECU Mt Lawley. Legs felt pretty good for a change but I think that may have been my downfall because my navigation was hopeless. Got put off by the door to the undercover area on the way to 2 and also misread the paths and went right out to the road. Went through an open gate into an OOB area leaving 6. Lost my place and took a wrong turn on the way to 12. Thought the gap between buildings at 16 went right through so went the wrong side. Spent almost a minute looking every side of every wall at 18 before realising I was on the wrong level. Slow at 19 because I didn't realise it was underneath. Got to the finish ok to download and find I hadn't punched the map change control. The map boxes were before the control with a small tree between the maps and the control. After picking up the new map I started towards the control then noticed it was OOB that way and turned back without punching. Didn't really care as I was way off the pace anyway.

Jogged over to pick up my first map from the map change and continued out to the footy ovals and back past the lake. Felt terrible all the way.

Lap of KP with Ivan. Felt a desire to run fast in the middle of the day but had lost it by the time we got out at the end of the day. Not much surging tonight but a reasonably solid steady pace.
