Event: Jumbuck Hill

10 AM

Orienteering 31:57 [1] 2.1 km (15:13 / km) +105m 12:10 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

VE course with Liam. Liam didn't seem to be in any hurry today so it was mostly just a stroll but my legs felt pretty good jogging to catch up after the few bits he decided to sprint (usually because he could see Sarah Richards).

Orienteering 47:19 [3] *** 5.3 km (8:56 / km) +190m 7:34 / km
spiked:7/8c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Did course 5 after the VE. First attempt at a hard course since the op. Pretty steep area so I knew I would have to take it very slowly on the hills and walk the steeper bits but I only made it about 100m from the start before my heart started playing up so I ended up walking about half the course.
Walked most of the way to 1 and got it cleanly. Half walk, half jog out to the track then tried to run down the track and across to control 2 but I misidentified the first rock I could see from the track and ended up too far up the hill. Relocated pretty quickly and went straight to the right spot from there to find a tape but no control. Took a few seconds to check and everything around seemed to match perfectly so I carried on. Walked most of the way to 3 and up to the saddle with the missing contour line then a nice little run down to 4. Walk/jog across to 5 successfully ignoring most of the mapping which I knew was bad in this area. Went out left through the saddle to the track from 5-6 to avoid the steeper climb which I thought was a good route but still had to walk most of the track, control was easy using the trees. Downhill from 6 to the finish so I was able to run most of this but still had to slow myself down a couple of times when I was feeling a little short of breath.
First hour or so after finishing generally didn't feel too good and had a few dizzy spells but ok after that. Feeling pretty much exactly the same as before the operation. Surprised to find I won the course, beating Anthea by about 12 minutes.

Running 25:05 [3] 4.9 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Nike Free 3.0 V4

Easy run around Southern part of KP mostly on hard surfaces. Ok on the flats but struggling on the hills and getting tired by the end.

Cycling 15:00 [4] 4.3 km (17.2 kph)

Running late for prosthodontist appointment so had to ride pretty hard up Thomas St straight into the wind to make it there on time. Probably should have just accepted being late because I was getting a bit of chest pain near the end and I had to wait 10 minutes anyway.

Set out for an easy run through KP but felt crap so I cut it short and did a few drills and strides at Rosalie instead.

Running 32:45 [3] 6.0 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Puma Faas 300

Easy run around batchelor. Did a tour of the town first then out and back along some gravel tracks on the edge of town. Turned to follow a track towards the sunrise which took me down a hill and past a big collection of rusted out cars around a tin shack. As I got closer I noticed one or two cars were a little newer and the shack had a curtain on one end which was tied back. Started wondering if it was private land then saw a fairly large dog walking around behind the curtain and decided to turn around as quickly and quietly as possible. As I headed back up the hill I noticed that my stride length was longer than it had been going down but my heart passed the little test ok.
