Running warm up/down 29:47 intensity: (13:58 @2) + (15:49 @3) 5.7 km (5:14 / km) +30m 5:05 / km
ahr:118 max:178 shoes: Adizero Ace

Got to Mt Lawley early so I could get an early start and Rachel a late one. Felt pretty awful at the start of the warm up but was starting to pick up a bit after 10 minutes so I pushed it a bit up a small rise and set my tachycardia off. Told Rachel to go first to give my heart time to settle down but after an hour and a half it still wasn't settling properly so I had to just start and hope for the best.

Orienteering race 16:00 intensity: (11 @1) + (3 @2) + (9 @3) + (1:37 @4) + (14:00 @5) ** 3.79 km (4:13 / km) +25m 4:05 / km
ahr:181 max:236 shoes: Adizero Ace

Heart was ok for the first few controls and my legs felt pretty good but I tried to take it pretty easy to avoid setting it off again. Brief spike in HR heading to 6, slightly bigger on the way to 7 then really took off coming into 8, got to 228 at 9. A little hesitation and took it a bit slower for a while leaving 9 which settled things down for a while. Started to climb a bit again into 13 and then took off on the way to 14 peaking at 236. Dropped back through 16-17 but then soared again out of 17 hitting 224 by the finish. Decided to back it off a little going into 18 when I started to get a tingling sensation on the left side of my neck. Legs still felt good, frustrating not to be able to push it really hard. Still good fun, I don't think Rachel liked hearing my stories at the end though.

Took about 15 minutes for my HR to drop below 160 after finishing.

Running 34:49 [1] 5.0 km (6:58 / km) +80m 6:27 / km
shoes: Nike Free 7.0

Easy 5k loop at first light. Quite warm but not a problem at the pace I was going. Slower than Juffy.
6 PM

Note

Wanted to go for another run when I got home to post a more respectable time than the morning effort but Rachel talked me out of it.

Note
(rest day)

Couldn't run with the halter monitor on and it will be too hot later so seems like a good excuse for a rest day. Felt pretty good jogging back to the office and walking up the stairs after returning the halter monitor.
I don't think the halter monitor recorded anything of interest.

Running 30:44 [2] 5.0 km (6:09 / km) +80m 5:41 / km
shoes: Nike Free 7.0

Easy 5k loop in the morning. Struggled to get going at the start, thought about going back to bed. Felt like I was moving freely in the second half but still lacking in energy.

Cycling 55:00 [1] 12.0 km (13.1 kph) +100m
slept:5.8 weight:68kg

Took Amy up to the sculpture park and back on the mountain bike with Rachel. Half an hour at the playground in the middle. Wanted to stop and lie down in Mahogany Creek on the way back.

Monday Mar 8, 2010 #

Running 50:46 [2] 8.7 km (5:50 / km) +100m 5:31 / km
slept:4.9 weight:68.2kg shoes: Nike Pegasus Black

Slow lap of KP with Ivan. I can't say easy because it was anything but. Really wanted to stop and lie down on the grass half way around. Would have gone much slower and much shorter if Ivan wasn't there to drag me around.
Giving up training now.

Orienteering race 26:32 intensity: (12 @0) + (3 @1) + (7 @2) + (2:06 @3) + (23:17 @4) + (47 @5) **** 3.01 km (8:50 / km) +100m 7:34 / km
ahr:150 max:162 shoes: Adidas Swoop Blue

Sprint at Bryce's Flat near Daylesford.
Stood around for a while near 4 looking for a knoll, eventually spotted a flag sitting out in the middle of nowhere. Checked the number and found it was mine but still couldn't see any knoll. Lost a bit more time at 9 because I didn't realise the depression was in the top of a knoll. Got the route choice right to 13 but then left it the wrong way and ended up at 15 instead of 14 losing a minute or two. Similar error leaving 18 cost a bit more time and was generally pretty slow and cautious all the way around.
Heart was fine but legs never felt good. Didn't really work very hard physically.
11 AM

Orienteering race 39:02 intensity: (1:10 @3) + (19:00 @4) + (18:52 @5) *** 6.06 km (6:27 / km) +200m 5:32 / km
ahr:142 max:167 shoes: Adidas Swoop Blue

Mixed relay on The Blow Hole and Bryces Flat. Legs felt crap again at the start but improved a bit throughout the race. No real mistakes and managed to keep up with the packs reasonably well. Felt as though we were really a part of the race which was a nice change for a relay. Good fun and a nice way to finish the weekend.
