trail run 8:00 [3] 1.75 km (4:34 / km)

warm up.

orienteering 38:29 [5] 7.9 km (4:52 / km)

QOC Beer Chase at McKeldin. Fun race - ran pretty hard. Jon Torrance beat me by 10s. This includes about 1 min of drinking time. My 2,3,4 beer splits were 0:14, 0:15, 0:13 (first drinking split is included in first leg split). HOT out there today.

orienteering 26:08 [3] 2.2 km (11:53 / km)

Control pick up at McKeldin. Checked out some of the new part of the map that Ted is making. Looks like good stuff over there, but had to wade across the river to get to it.

Note

Finally did some much needed bike maintenance today. Rebuilt the rear deraileur and pedals, took some slack from the brake cables, lubed everything. Chain is visibly stretched after all these years. Need a new one. Need new tires too. These have 5800 miles on them and they are both bald. The rear one has a completely flat footprint 1/2" across, some threads showing in one spot right in the middle, and I spin it more often from standing starts these days. This is the second set on this bike. Can't remember what the first set got - maybe 7k?

trail run 48:21 [3] 10.4 km (4:39 / km)

Loch Raven. Route and profile. Beer Chase tomorrow.

Roland Park. *really* didn't feel like running tonight, but did anyways. Ugh.

cycling 1:17:00 [4] 25.65 mi (3:00 / mi)

Work commute. Had a nice tailwind from the south coming home so I jammed hard to take advantage of it. Mostly uneventful today, except I caught a bad phase with all the lights on Charles and University. Hit all the lights - like 6 in a row. Full stop, scrub all the momentum, then sprint off the line. Sometimes it feels more like a series of intervals than a bike ride. Measured the total climb: 2400', which is about 500' more than from the old place. Inbound profile. The return is basically the reverse of this. The hill at mile 3 is a killer going home (at mile 9 on the return).

trail run 28:58 [3] 6.6 km (4:23 / km)

At Loch Raven right after getting off the bike. This is really tough. I dunno how triathaletes do it. Climbed 550'

cycling 1:18:30 [3] 25.65 mi (3:04 / mi)

Work commute. Its crazy out there. Got cut off twice today - once each direction and both while I was going downhill over 25 mph. First was people pulling out from behind a left turner. Second was someone pulling out from parallel parking. She came clear across to the double-yellow line and I though it was a U-turn. Fully expected to go "superman" over the hood, but she finally saw me or heard me yelling and I was able to cross into the other lane. It was in an outside turn, so there was at least 100m of visibility of me coming down the hill.

trail run 9:00 [3] 2.0 km (4:30 / km)

Warm-ups

orienteering 10:59 [5] 2.2 km (5:00 / km)

Water Gap Sprint #1. Made an error on #3, and that combined with the trail running on 1 and 2 let John F catch me there (30s). Spent the rest of the race splitting routes with him trying to make up the time but only got back 3s or so.

orienteering 12:31 [5] 2.25 km (5:34 / km)

Water Gap sprint #2. Crazy start, as I forgot to clear and check. Did that and started immediately. Blew #2 too far left. Error on #4 - climbed too high too early. Too wide on 5 and 7...losing seconds. Ran slower than I could have with no one around me for motivation.
