orienteering 46:50 [3] 4.5 km (10:24 / km)
Polebrook map Short course ~4.5 km, 25 controls with short (100m) and long (500m) legs for tempo changes. The exercise was to look up and forward and notice everything and rely less on the compass. Also concentrate on getting an attackpoint. Brent said the rough english translation of Katarina's exercise name was "last safe point." No streamers in the woods made concentration even more important to hit the right spot. I always felt like I was seeing more things because I wanted to be sure I was at the correct location as soon as I got there and not waste time double-checking. I think I still have that tendancy to "just look for the bag" when I get close.
orienteering 20:09 [4] 2.5 km (8:04 / km)
After lunch we did a very fast 16-control short-leg exercize at speed on a VERY nice section of Polebrook. The course crossed over itself several times and there were several repeat features...i.e. going from one control that was two boulders immediately to another that was two boulders. Concentrating on which was the next control was tough. No numbers on the circles or streamers in the woods. Brent, Pam and I took splits on this one to up the pressure a little. This was a totally fun exercise. Beautiful day compared to yesterday.
road run 13:31 [2] 2.5 km (5:24 / km)
Group run back to the parking lot along Lake Kanawauke with Cherie, Pamela, Ellen and Brent. Saw a snake..in the Lake. Absolutely beautiful day in the woods. I didn't want to go home :(
Note
This weekend with the CSU Billygoat races and the training camp at Harriman with some of the Canucks was just awesome. I had a total blast even on Monday with the lousy weather. Good friends, awesome terrain, great accommodations and tips from the pros. This was just the best. Thanks guys! Special thanks to Wil and Katarina for setting up the exercises...will definately miss them for the next couple of months. The Nev-monster was there training with us on Monday too.
