Well..., things went well to the first two controls at least. Headed straight for 2, going in up to my knees in the open marsh, but the stream control extension worked. Then into Oh Hell with the bad plan of expecting I could tell when I was crossing each ride, in spite of various Saturday red and blue runners saying it was not possible. Came upon a control on a distinct knoll and studied the map carefully. The only one I could find supposedly had rock and a ride on its north side, but I didn't see either. So quite puzzled, I continued on my line, hoping to find domething distinctive. After going back and forth on one yellow line, I noticed a significant rock face, which allowed (finally) relocation. After the race, others told me there was rock on the knoll, and if I had stepped two paces right I would have seen it. The I made a similar mistake going east of the marsh to 6. I thought it would be easy followin the line of a ride due north, but lost track again of where I was, came across a big boulder, but didn't think it was in the right place to be the big boulder on the map, so ignored it, ran into the maze north of the control, floundered around, and finally recovered by the long knoll and boulder next to the big marsh. Same mistake twice: lost contact, found a distinct feature in an uncertain location, then convinced myself it was not the obvious feature on the map.
Fortunately all my M70 competition failed to take advantage of my 12 minutes of errors and I ended up first again, but slipped to 7th on the course.
