North American Orienteering Championships, long distance at Burnt Moutain.

The most ecstatic run of my season, and for sure one of the best terrain I have ever visited. When I turned my map over at the start, I just couldn´t stop smiling. Enjoyed every steps in this forest, even if I won´t again argue that the 1/15.000 rule for a WRE is so unnecessary for this type of terrain and kills half of the fun. Anyway, it was a great orienteering day here in US!

North American Orienteering Championships, middle distance at Storrs Pond.

A lot better terrain than I expected after visiting the model event and the warm-up maps. Mostly quite fast running, but a bit tricky in a couple of places. Tomorrow´s long might be the highlight of the weekend, with a great terrain.

On my way to North American Orienteering Championships, I stopped at Moreau Lake (about half way between NYC and Montreal, in Adirondacks) today to run the course of US middle distance champs 2013.

Absolutely World Class terrain. Good runnability, rather low visibility, and a great map, even though the cliffs were some of the smallest I have ever seen on a map. Really enjoyed that one, and it remembered me a lot about the best parts of Le Semnoz (World Cup 2010 in France).

A short training at legendary Surebridge Mountain this morning. Reran a course from our 2009 camp with the US team. A lot more undergrowth in many places, but still highly enjoyable.

US Classic distance championships, day 2, at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

A shorter course compare to yesterday, with a bit more of middle distance character and 1/10.000 scale. Still the same fun, even if today´s weather felt like entering a Swedish sauna, with a humidity which remembered me the WOC in Japan, back in 2005. And from what I heard, it was pretty cold and dry compare to some weeks ago… The highlight of the course was surely the last part of the race, in downhill and greens, where the map was really accurate. Next is Harriman Park.

Drove to Harriman State Park after the competition, and ran a training I had set for US Armed Forces at Turkey Mountain.

Not as nice as I expected/hoped, as the undergrowth was quite dense in many parts of the terrain.

Moved the first control on what I think is the correct stone.

Just enough undergrowth to make it quite slow.
