Orienteering 3:42:27 [3] 11.0 mi (20:13 / mi)
shoes: Solomons

Terrible Course
Point 1 went well
At point 2, I was overwhelmed by the detail on the map. I made it to the collection of three marshes but after that I moved to far to the SW. i hit my backstop of the marshes but was unsure of my location along it. (Need Simplification)

Point Three was my worst point of the day. I used tyhe trail and two swamps to funnel myself near the point. From that location i was unable to find the point. I misread the terrain and I was intending to find the point on a cliff face. instead the point was on the opposite side of the cliff face above the swamp rather than on the same contour as the swamp.

From there i progressed well until point 7. The long leg of point 7 went very well and I used trails to reach the collection of three swamps. As I moved through the swamps, i came onto the trail. however, i thought I was on a different swamp. i then missed the point and ran into the water pool. From there i was able shoot an azimuth and hit the point.

Point 8 was my second worst point. I made a parrallell feature error and spent too much time looking on a different cliff face. Eventually, I moved north and found the point.(Needed to use pace count).

Pint 9 and on all went well. After three hours in the woods my splits slowed down but my navigation was solid.

Coomments
-Pace count
-Budget time when lost, if i cannot find it i need to book it to a linear feature and reset from there
-Simplification to cut down on the unnecessary rock features.

Orienteering 1:19:00 [5] 4.6 mi (17:10 / mi)
shoes: Solomons

points 1-3 i progressed slowly but I navigated efficiently.

Point 4 I miscounted my collecting features and blasted past the last trail. At this point i mis oriented my map and headed further into the woods. As soon as I realized thi i reoriented off of a trail and I hit the point.

Point 12 was a mess. i took the route that brought me to the north of the mountain which led me down a drastic decrease in elevation. After about 400 meters on this trail, I broke off and had to head back up this elevation I lost. When I arrived at the top, i had no clear idea of which trail I was on. From here, I had to shoot an azimuth North to reach the main trail. From there I landed my self in my attack point, a very distinct swamp, and came right upon the point.

Point 16 I misread the ski slope and went one trail too far. this then required me to sprint back up the ski slope.

Mispunch- After completing the zigzagging points 13-20 i ran towards point 21. From there I knew that I needed to hit the go control. i folllowed the person in front of me while i vaguely read the map. I punch the point and flew out of the point. The point I nedded was 100 and i punched 166. In the heat of the moment, I beleived I had hit the correct point. In order to finish, I raced as fast as i could past the go control. i still could have finished the race without the mispunch.

Comments/Improves
-Flow- between each point i felt as if i never could continuously move
-Decision making- At several points, especially, 12, I made drastice errors in route choice that devastated my time.
-Mispunch. I did a good job of checking my control sheet until the end. I got cuaght up in trying to have a fast go control and I made a ridiculous mistke. Mispunches are easy to fix and there are no excuses for any more.

Orienteering 40:00 [4] 3.5 mi (11:26 / mi)
shoes: Solomons

Course by West point Grads and LTC Campbell
Very Hilly
Many points located on obsure features
Required a lot of focus and good use of attack points. Overall the course was smooth except for one point where I overshot and missed my catching feature (cliffs). Went a little slower than usual to prepare for NAOC

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 5.0 km (14:00 / km)
shoes: Solomons

Trails vs woods course. Legs compared evenly proving that the woods is not the slowest way of getting to a point especially with well defined terrain

Much better 2nd Day of US Champs at pound Ridge
Fastest Time for WPers
Made only minor mistakes and kept a pretty good pace. Work to minimize errors and get 10 per km
