Feeling loads better today mainly thanks to an awesome sleep. Didn't want to push it and had guests staying so went for a sociable trot round the lower Derwent reservoir. Nice.

Out of the frying pan into the fire. Leg lots better - come down with the streaming lurgy. FEEL ROUGH. On the plus side I picked up a load of tips on self massage and baby oil this evening off a pair of Sheffield shopkeepers. Can't wait to put it into action during bake-off later.

Pleased with this, especially as I was able to contribute to a rare Totley team victory, with Steve winning and Ollie Hart coming 4th. Think I ran a sensible, even paced race. In hindsight I wonder if surges in certain places might have bumped me up a place or two, but in reality I think I was pretty much up against my current fitness ceiling. Things to be chuffed with: dealing ok with very soft ground, which I'm weak on; dealing ok with pacing in a longer race, which usually ends in a horrific bonk; stronger on the hills (although still feel relatively weak compared to others). Things to be less pleased with: not busting a gut to prevent the guy who finished 3rd opening a gap (to be honest I was quite close to busting a gut when he came past me so maybe that's wishful thinking); sore right quad - very sore in fact. Feels ok now but will have to see what happens with it. At the time I thought I'd torn something - now it just feels like a strain.
