Started off well to 1 and then did not maintain map contact on my way to 2. Generally stayed on my bearing so I didn't lose too much time, but a lot of hesitation when the terrain wasn't matching with what I expected. The next few controls went pretty smoothly. Then a mistake on 6. I intended to follow the spur out to the control, but ended up too low. Lots of hesitation before figuring out what I had done. After that everything clicked and I had great flow. I thought the woods/terrain from 9-12 were fantastic. Had a smile on my face as I was running along. Very pleased with how well I was able to push physically.
Overall, a really enjoyable weekend of orienteering!

Volunteered to pre-run so Kevin and I could both race. It was a chilly morning for an early start! Used the first few controls to get back into 1:15. Small mistake on 4 when I followed the wrong hill side to a different set of gullies. Enjoyed the ridge run to 5 - although it was quite the hill. I exited 5 and proceeded to climb way more than was necessary. Bonus hill. Another small mistake on 9 when I saw a flag and ran to it without checking my map. Pretty happy with my run. Legs were a little tired from yesterday, but held up well. I still have the general navigation skills, but I would benefit from refreshing on precise map reading. Orienteering is the best :)

Woo! Orienteering! It’s been over a year since the last time we travelled to a larger o event. I went in with one goal: have fun. Mission accomplished. I remembered how to navigate. I was a little sloppy with bearings, but the woods were so open it was easy to correct. Felt strong. A little clumsy running through the woods since it’s been so long. Excited for tomorrow :)
