Python 10hr Rogaine
Cuyahoga National Park

4th time doing this race after a 2 year COVID hiatus. I have to say, this was the best weather of any 4 times - cloudy and low 60's - my perfect race weather.

I wasn't really sure how my body was going to hold up, having an historically low year in foot miles, exercise hours etc. So I decided to focus on having fun, and using this as motivation to get back in shape, so I wanted to have a good solid race, having fun, and want to do more racing afterwards. I'd call it a success.

Instead of planning to maximize points, I maximized flags while staying close to the finish, "just in case". I thought this would lead to lower overall milage, but in the end my milage wasnt too much lower, and my climb was way higher than in the past, so I guess it just wasnt a good strategy overall.

My navigation was often sloppy, but on the plus side I almost always figured it out along the way. Still had a few bigger errors on 85, 55 (i think this was placed 1 reentrant off), 33 (d'oh - should have been the easiest control, but i did laps around the block).

I reached my decision point at 33 with 3 hours left. I wanted 4 hours for the big loop or 1.5 hours for the return trip, so I compromised and did an abbreviated version of the longer loop. Unfortunately this was some of the greenest woods I encountered, which made me a little grumpy. I was also starting to panic and just being stupid with my nav, so I'll take the blame.

Another great Python. The NEOOC folks are great hosts, so friendly, great organization, and just a fun race. Turnout was great (180 people!) so I saw a lot of people in the woods, and chatted with a number of O friends. Hot showers and Hot food at the finish that was first class. And I was able to drive there and back same day. Overall, a great day in the woods! Happy with how I help up, felt, and convinced myself I do like racing (in cool weather). My placing was pretty low, the field was stacked!.
