Running 2:56:00 [1] 11.8 km (14:55 / km) +904m 10:47 / km
ahr:131 max:178

xc-racer5 (younger brother) birthday hike/trudge up Mount Ida in about 3 inches of snow at the bottom, to about 16 at the top. Run/slide back down. Unfortunately, the top of the mountain was up into cloud and just flurrying a little bit, so no view.

GPS battery died on the way down, lots of power left, the older device just struggles at medium power in the cold now. When fully charged it does fine.

GPS location visible to everyone logged in to AP.

Biking 2:01:52 intensity: (1:00:00 @1) + (1:01:52 @2) 17.95 km (6:47 / km) +693m 5:41 / km
ahr:143 max:179

Nice ride from home similar to my last ride on Mt Ida, except I went further up the hill. Uup the first 500m of East Peak trail, then across on a dirt biking trail called Jurassic Park). Ended up doing a bit of an uphill out and back on Jurassic Park because my expected cut across/connector trail did not end up existing, so I bush-wacked my bike through about 70m of fairly open forest to get over to my intended down trail. Came down a bunch of the dirt biking Silver Slope trails, and just back along Auto Rd. instead of the more trail route of Bullwinkle.

Slowly mapping in the trails on Ida, but still have a bunch to go.

Really cold up top, with about 1.5 inches of old crusty snow, and puddles totally frozen. Unfortunately, I did not wear full finger gloves which was a mistake.

Lynn Valley Adventure Run - So much fun. but off to bed now (midterm tomorrow with a distinct lack of studying, so hopefully sleep and exercise is good enough).

Biking 40:28 [1] 8.12 km (4:59 / km) +131m 4:37 / km

Easy study break ride (I am not a huge fan of my current Immunology course) from home out and around the DND land loop.

Nice ride from home (so GPS track visible to friends only...).

Out via Auto Rd. to the Industrial Park, then up the double track (Quad Bog) to the left of the Silver Mine Creek. Across a small portion of Ida on the degrading FSR, and down on one of the dirt biking trails I have never been on. Absolutely phenomenal riding that was challenging, but still ridable. Down a few of the switchbacks of the main Silver Slope climb route (not very awesome), and then across on Bullwinkle (also a dirtbiking trail). Started bushwacking one corner to early on Bullwinkle, so had to carry the bike back up to the trail, ride another 230m, and then bushwacked down to the new Trail Alliance MTB trail. (They have built another 200m of it up to the first switchback, so there is now 350m of purpose built MTB trail built above the powerlines.) Down the old cutlines under the powerlines, and then down the down trail of the new Shuswap Memorial Park trail system (a.k.a. The North Face). Back on the roads to home.

Super fun ride, pretty cold up top, and light fading at the end. So glad I got out.

Hiking 1:29:58 intensity: (1:00:00 @0) + (29:58 @1) 6.02 km (14:57 / km) +220m 12:38 / km

Easy exploratory hike of Balmoral Bluff (in person orienteering on October 5th FYI). Trails are actually there, chunks of forest are halfway decent, and access forest service road in (Bayview) is in good shape. Event is looking like a go.

Easy ride Dad and Simon at South Canoe. First time up Sweet Tears and down the new Coffeetime. Got the first of the two tight switchbacks, but couldn't quite make the second one and jumped over the handlebars to get out of it. Next time...

Run at South Canoe on some of the less used horse trails down towards the gun range while Simon was roller skiing at ski practice.

First midterm (of 3) of the season tomorrow.

Running 57:19 intensity: (12 @0) + (10:55 @1) + (24:17 @2) + (18:42 @3) + (3:13 @4) 8.39 km (6:50 / km) +353m 5:39 / km
ahr:146 max:179

After updating a few school maps in Kamloops for some teachers who are going to actually use them, I stopped at Balmoral Trailhead in Blind Bay to go for a run.

Bit smoky out, but a nice little run with some improved views thanks to some logging. Not too convinced on the cleanup/re-planting they have done on these cutblocks, but they were planned out in a fairly intelligent manner.

I am thinking about doing an in person Orienteering event out here sometime this fall. I have LiDAR for the area, so just by adding in some trail from Strava and maybe one more quick run around, we could get a decent beginner and advanced course out on it.

Running 3:13:38 intensity: (3:40 @0) + (1:28:45 @1) + (1:19:54 @2) + (21:19 @3) 19.14 km (10:07 / km) +789m 8:23 / km
ahr:133 max:166

Long run, that we (Lillian, Dad and I) decided that we would do about 15 minutes before we left home.

From South Canoe, up Climb, up the road to the Watershed Sign, and then across and through the watershed. We assumed there was an old logging road connection through, but turns out that it is just a cutline for most of it. Lots of steep side hilling through ~10 year old trees for this section.

Crossed the creek, then bushwacked straight up the other side to the new (or perhaps recently refurbished) logging road, then up the logging road to the new Ida View (inaptly named by the way, you can see every other mountain peak around except Mount Ida) section of the Larch Hills Traverse. Up Ida View, then around the southern side of Round the World Loop to the Greenway. Down the Greenway, Reino's, and down Arwen's to the Larch Hills chalet where Jon picked us up. We had originally planned on doing the full loop back down to South Canoe, but our lack of preparation made us take the bail out option.

View to the NW overlooking Rubberhead, Broadview, and Shuswap Lake. Bastion Mountain on the right, Fly Hills on the left. A little bit haze from California smoke.
GPS track visible to friends only, let me know if you want onto that list.

Biking 1:10:00 [1] 10.0 km (7:00 / km)

Neglected to bring my watch (couldn't find it). Up (Climb with all No More Tears Sections, Troll Bridge, Gypsy Tears, Flipside) and down (Mo Bettah Mo Buddah, Lower Schitzo, Banjo, PPT2) ride with Dad at South Canoe.

Really good conditions right now, nice to get out.
