Orienteering race 1:11:33 [4] 6.4 km (11:11 / km) +220m 9:32 / km

Qld long champs at Cascades. The map has thickened up quite a bit over the last few years, so running was restricted to the bare rock and some small patches of white(ish) forest. Always amazing though, how even though you can't get anywhere fast, you can get lost incredibly quickly on this map!
Started ok - got into the circle for the first control and saw Tara leaving (4mins) but still took nearly another minute to bash my way into the flag. 2 was on a rocky slope with heaps of junk not big enough to make it on the map more than rocky ground. But somehow I'd managed to get to the right place, and the one decent sized boulder had my flag on it.
Climbed to much on 4, and got distracted by a rock that was obviously way too big to be the one I was looking for, but at least it gave me a good place to relocate off.
Got a bit off line mid leg 8-9 and climbed a bit more than I should, but decided to make the most of it and went out to the track to the north which gave the only decent running in the whole course, and a much easier approach to the control. picked up over 2mins on that split, so definitely the best option!.
Laurina came past me in the last few controls, and was running so well I figured she must have caught me, but turned out I'd past her without seeing her, but we had a nice little run through the last few controls together, and she entertained me with an awesome faceplant in the marshy area on the way to the last control!

I would rate the course as the most technically difficult that I have run at cascades and I was very scared of getting very lost. was extremely cautious the whole way round, and managed to get through with only about 2 1/2 mins of mistakes over the course. possibly could have run faster, but the risk of some huge stuff up was too high.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

warm up. did intend to do a warm down, but blisters said no.

Event: Qld Champs

Orienteering race 30:18 [5] 4.3 km (7:03 / km) +95m 6:21 / km

Qld middle champs at 'Over the border', where half of the course was in NSW. Beautiful terrain - fast, open granite with not too much fallen timber, and enough rock to be pretty technically challenging.

Started badly, and over shot the first short leg, and found the mens first control instead. slowed down a bit, and hit the next few fine.
Had a nervous run out to 7 on a long leg into a very vague low vis area, but hit the control spot on. missed a little on both 9 and 10 cos I didn't read the map well enough, and seemed to mysteriously end up off line in the last 100m before the control after passing a very definite rock. prob lost about 2mins over the course, but pretty happy with the run compared to recent efforts. quite hot running in the middle of the day, and struggled to push the pace at any stage during the run.
finished up 5mins clear of a group of about 4.
