BVRT linville to Ipswich. Rolled along ok today. Not as steamy as the last 2 days. Bit easier without the mud too.

BVRT linville to yarraman and back. Cooler day with a few showers. A bit muddy after all the rain yesterday arvo. One of the creek crossings was flooded and flowing pretty quick. Turns out of its flooded, forget it... but only after you've been in waist deep carrying your bike over your head to make sure it's really too deep to get across.

Long wait for food in yarraman and got beaten by a carrot cake muffin in blackbutt.

After declaring that long weekends in January in qld are a bit rubbish cos it's too hot to do anything we decided to ride the Brisbane valley rail trail.
Today we did the Ipswich to linville section, with a few detours as they've closed section for track upgrades. Followed a storm north for the first part, so it wasn't too hot early but the trail was pretty muddy. Bakery stop in esk at 70k and it was pretty steamy for a while after that but then we got the edge of a couple more storms. Made it linville pub ok. Power is out but the beer is still cold.

Last ride in chiayi. Climb up to fenquihu was tough - it's 40k of mostly climbing to get there, and finishes with a 3k ramp which hits 32%. The town is a cute little tourist village. A bit more climbing to the top of the pass. Amazing valley over the back and a long run trending downhill. Just enough pinch climbs to remind you that your legs are truly wrecked.

Rest-ish day. Took the bus up the mountain to Alishan to check out the mountain forest. Turns out it's mostly replanted after the forestry did for most of it, but the regrowth is now 70+ yrs old so quite a nice forest again. They did leave quite a few of the very big trees which are 2000+yrs old and massive.
Did about 10k of walking - most of which was stairs. Pretty tired. Must have been the altitude - can't think of any other reason for my legs to be sore.
