Orienteering race 1:24:00 [5]

NOL long, Hill End. Hammy insertion was hurting from before I started warming up, so the run was always going to be about managing that and getting through the distance. Hills were a big struggle. Nav better than yesterday - kept the wobbles small. hammy has mostly been ok running, so need to figure out how to not have it flare up in terrain.

Orienteering race 50:00 [5]

NOL relay Hill End. First leg... which wasn't a great idea. despite trying to warm up for ages legs and brain were both cold and asleep at the start. dead last out of the start, but hit the first two perfectly and was sitting in 3rd on the way to 3. then completely missed the creek intersection (realised afterwards that the creek coming in from the side goes through a tunnel, so you don't actually have to cross it - you just keep running on the track). anyway, lost 10 mins wandering around in the gully system to the west with Liv before figuring out where the hell we'd ended up. lost a couple more minutes with a dodgy approach to 5 in the erosion. had a gel there and nav was much more consistent after that. legs were pretty good until the drag back over the hill when my hammy started complaining.
overall performance was very ordinary (and not surprising for 2nd run of the year), but most of the course was pretty good. need to keep improving the good stuff and remember how to stay concentrated, even when it should be easy.

much longer than intended. oops. haven't done a long run since before the first injection. I have a bad habit of forgetting how long various routes take, and went for way more than I should have today. hunger flatted towards the end (hardly surprising), but otherwise felt surprisingly ok. the last 10 mins got pretty tough.

OY at Leyburn. massive fail. not really with it from the start. had a sit down while I was vague'd out looking for 4 and had my gel to try and get my brain working, but that only lasted a couple of controls. super tired and struggling to run. massive hunger flat. I guess the time in terrain over the last few days has been a bit of a shock to the system. still, nice to be out in the forest.

route choice exercise with Mark N. I seemed to end up with the crappy option each time, but it definitely made me run a bit harder than if I'd done it on my own.

line exercise on the crazy rocky hill. not great, but trying to rush too much, and make sure some of the young juniors didn't get completely lost.

Steady out, then some 100/100 over unders on the way back. Pacing rubbish, guts weird, sharp nerve pain at injection site every time i accelerated that only lasted 2 steps.
