Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

hot yoga. 3 min headstand (without passing out!).

Sunday Oct 30, 2016 #

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Club relays. Late start and very hot. Some good bits in the park but plenty of boring running on roads. Gave my ankle a good stretch on the first rough track. Settled ok but was a bit hesitant after that.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

afternoon gap creek mtb with Dan. found some tough trails. walked a couple of bits.

Friday Oct 28, 2016 #

Running 50:00 [3]

flat run in towards the city along coro drive.

Thursday Oct 27, 2016 #

Running 1:08:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:48 / km)

Coottha run. half in the dark, with Dan.

Note

had a medical for work - need it before I go to one of our sites. turns out that while I've gotten a bit fat lately I'm also taller than ever. bmi win!

Running (street o) 39:00 [3] 6.3 km (6:11 / km)

street o at st lucia. pretty challenging course set by Anatoly. pretty obvious from the start that it was going to be a low scoring event, so decided just to go for the big 4 and collect anything that was obviously on the way. pretty much stuck to that plan, except never found 54 behind the shops at the Ville. the street o standard of all controls on light posts had been well and truly ditched, but the map is definitely not up to anything more complicated.

I like Laurina's tactic for these - not giving the slightest shit about the time but just getting all the controls.

Cycling 1:10:00 [2]

short mtb at daisy with Jen. there was a bit of rain overnight... bom website said 1mm, but it was pretty muddy with big puddles - definitely more than 1mm to go from deep dust to deep puddles. pretty slippery and wasn't having much fun so we cut it short.

Cycling 1:46:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:49 / km)

mtb at gap creek, from clare's place. a bit stop-start, so logged moving time. fun trails.

Running 1:08:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:48 / km)

Coottha loop. in the dark this week. much less of an ordeal than last week - body must be getting used to running again. headlamp was pissing me off though - wouldn't sit still and kept trying to fall off my head.

Tuesday Oct 18, 2016 #

Running 39:30 [4] 6.8 km (5:49 / km)

Street O in Toowong. 40 min score. planned a route which included all controls and started dropping ones I knew I couldn't get after about 30 mins. unfortunately that included the 120 point control. that made me sad, but I got back in time.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

to and from anzac park.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Hot yoga

Cycling 1:30:00 [2]

Another cruisy Daisy ride with Jen and Denise. we were contemplating extending it when Denise crashed and decided that coffee was needed.
It has been pointed out that these cruisy rides are not going to help me get fast enough to keep up with Dan in NZ. I guess its a start though.

Thursday Oct 13, 2016 #

Running 1:09:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:54 / km)

spent the day doing a mine induction course, which finished a bit early. the rule of finishing work in daylight is that you have to go for a run, so did the coottha loop. felt old, fat and slow, but at least I got out for a run.

Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 #

Note

bit sore today. I guess that'll happen after first run in ages, and a pretty tough yoga class monday.

Yoga 1:00:00 [1]

another different yoga class (pass runs out in a couple of weeks and I have quite a few classes left). this one was lots of really slow stretches - mainly upper back and shoulders. good, but I think I needed another hour of lower back and hip stretching to even out.

Tuesday Oct 11, 2016 #

Running (Street O) 33:07 [3] 5.5 km (6:01 / km)

Street O at Rosalie. Figured it was about time I went for a run again, before I totally forgot how. good turnout, and Kate and Katelyn were there!

Got a nice surprise on the way to 1 when Laurina went past. Turns out we had planned nearly the same route, but Laurina was going a bit quicker and I was a bit smoother, so we stayed together until the end. Could have been a race, but neither of us could be bothered. She got me by about 20m.

the running part was surprisingly good. nice evening out.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

hot yoga. better class tonight.

Sunday Oct 9, 2016 #

Cycling 1:30:00 [2]

Very cruisy daisy ride with Jen and Denise. heaps of new trails since I last rode there. nice to get out and do something - not much else happened all weekend.

Thursday Oct 6, 2016 #

Yoga 1:00:00 [1]

different instructor. they've changed their timetable since I last went. didn't really like the class. lots of stupid fast breathing stuff and bullshit tolerance was very low.

Tuesday Oct 4, 2016 #

Stretching 30:00 [0]

stretching and watching rubbish tv. nice to have some time in the evening to relax instead of doing event organising stuff.

Orienteering 20:00 [2]

turning on controls loop. my plan was to turn on all the controls that the early starters weren't going to get to. the route took me through a bunch of controls, then to the start to do a final check, then out onto the hill. I made as far as the start where I stumbled into the great control description crisis. I guess it was lucky that they were sufficiently wrong that the early starters had picked it up. and I had my laptop with the latest course version in the car. we had an hour then till first starts and decided to prioritise the elite courses and the moderate courses. not ideal, but better than a lot of cancelled courses.

the main lesson for the day was how ineffective "checking" anything is once you've reached a certainly level of stress and tiredness.
the other was that 99% of people are lovely and understanding and appreciate that sometimes not everything works out perfectly.

Orienteering 1:49:00 [3]

Aus long course. Ran unofficially early. partly to turn controls on and also just cos I wanted to run what looked like a really good long course. course and area were great but I was rubbish. tired, unmotivated and not concentrating. made a couple of really stupid mistakes cos I hadn't been concentrating at all and did stupid fly-in-bottle around the control. and I walked a bit.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2]

checking all the flags and SI units for the middle on cascades. everything correct. at least we got that bit right.
