Cootha run. early finish from first aid course so did a longer run. Dan came with me which was different. he started running again while I was gone. there were lots of mutterings about being slow, but as usual he was much faster than me.
right knee/itb is unhappy with me.

Falling asleep at work so bailed earlier than usual (...or just normal going home time for other people). meant I had time for a run in daylight. felt a bit stronger than expected so threw in a few hill surges.

Walk on a high plateau south east of roros. Pretty wild and the weather wasn't great.

Jog walk up the little peak near where i camped. Cloud came in so no view.

Walk back to kebnekaise hut then out to the car. Feet very sore and this got a bit shuffley at the end.

Walk in from nikkaluokta to kebnekaise hut. Massive lunch before heading up the mountain.

walk 6:00:00 [3] 16.0 km (22:30 / km) +2000m 13:51 / km

Kebnekaise climb and back to about 2 km before the hut. Didn't quite make it to the summit. The last 20m height is a steep ice sheet and the weather closed in just as i got there. Decided it was safer to turn around.

run in some nice forest near oulu. 19C, but sunny and still so got quite warm running. saw a big fluffy white dog early on the run, which had then turned into swamp dog when I saw it later.

Long afternoon driving from stockholm to skuleskogen np. did a run up over a little mountain with great views over the sea. nice evening to be out. still quite warm. time includes photo stops.

Orienteering race 1:12:19 [5] 8.0 km (9:02 / km)

WMOC long final. the map looked pretty nice and there were some good reports about the terrain from early runners. there was an area of little lakes in the marshes that Aislinn and Amber had joked about having controls in.. but decided it would be ridiculous. the two controls in that area was the first thing I noticed as I turned over the map.
For the most part the course was easier, and in nicer terrain. lots of track running early on. somehow had a brain fart and lost 5 mins on 5. not sure how I ended up where I did - must have gotten totally turned around. the rest of the course was fine. the bog section was pretty adventurous. really pretty out there, but I think it was a bit extreme for orienteering terrain. fell in a really deep bit joining lakes (over head), and it was a bit disconcerting that whole sections were just floating moss. and it was really cold.

The course was a great adventure, but I'm a bit disappointed that my stupid mistake cost me a top 10 finish (14th). continued the close results with Amber - she finished in 15th, only 18 secs back.

super easy jog around the sprint training at the botanic gardens. nice to have a little run. legs are pretty tired.

Orienteering race 1:03:46 [5] 6.5 km (9:49 / km)

WMOC qual 2. total disaster at the start - just couldn't interpret the map and missed some massive features. then again on 2. lots of runners in my class going past but I just couldn't figure the map out. I'd taken some painkillers for a headache before I started but they hadn't really kicked in. I took the 'just in case' gel I'd carried on the way to 3 and made myself take it slower and more carefully. started to get into the race a bit better after that. a couple of small errors in green, but no more disasters. somehow didn't managed to run myself out of the A final. only about an hour of bus waiting today.

Orienteering race 54:41 [5] 5.9 km (9:16 / km)

WMOC long qual 1. nice area, but not as open and runnable as the model. quite a few controls in the green, and a lot of marsh. fairly conservative run and kept mistakes to a dodgy exit direction on one control (although that managed to cost me 2 mins). the forest is pretty soft and tough running so trying to save the legs for saturday. 8th.

jog around on the ridiculously nice model area. obviously the real map won't be anywhere near as runnable.

Orienteering race 15:49 [5] 3.2 km (4:57 / km)

WMOC sprint final in tallinn old town. Very stiff and sore warming up but felt ok once i got going. Good clean race and ended up 7th.

Run down the western bank of the river. Worked out later i turned around just before the low level bridge. Nice running track and a much cooler afternoon.

paddle up katherine gorge. nice way to spend an unexpected public holiday... picnic day apparently.
