Note

Rest day in Prescott. Nice historic town. found an awesome bike shop to get brakes fixed - they had a great collection of historic road bikes and other cool stuff.

Cycling 6:00:00 [3]

Goldwater -Lynx loop, with some extra single track sections. Big day out, and very cold. The loop had everything - some of the best sections of single track I've ever ridden, and quite a few miles of pushing uphill through lose rock (but then worth it for over an hour of downhill singles). Lesson for the day was how to ride old icy chewed up snow.

rear brake gave up halfway around today. better find a bike shop tmw.

A bit of stuffing around trying to find a way across the creek, then a change of plan and we rode the old post / ridge loop in south sedona.

Cathedral rock, which is what we'd planned for the morning. more big sections of slickrock ledges.

West Sedona tour, with some add-ons. Mescal trail was a highlight - riding the narrow slickrock ledges around the hills. Struggled a fair bit at the end - its a lot of intense single track in one go!

Dead horse ranch loop near Cottonwood, south of Sedona. (red rocks, cottonwoods and dead horses were a common theme in this part of the world). More rocks - this time super sharp limestone, and bigger cactuses.

Some short walks at the grand canyon. had the desert view area pretty much to ourselves in the morning as the road was closed with snow - so nothing to do but sit and look at the view.

Forecast for more really cold weather and snow meant we decided to head south, so we had a long drive through to Grand Canyon south (which was still very cold -10C), but at least in the right direction. had a short run between snow storms in the afternoon after the drive. pretty nice to be out. 3/4 tights were a bad choice - the bare shins really didn't like it.

Drove up to Bryce in a snow storm. got some clear patches in the afternoon, but too much snow to do much. very pretty, but the water in the van froze. -18C is quite cold.

Snow plows are terrifying to drive near.

More mtb at red rock, this time a bit further south - deadhorse loop with some extra. Some good views back over Las Vegas.
Cold and windy. Drove up to Zion afterwards.

Mtb ride from Blue Diamond, west of Las Vegas. Did the landmine loop. rocky and fun, and great to blow off some cobwebs after travelling, but it got pretty dark at the end. Saw a mangy coyote hanging around the van when we got back.

Trail finding for the trip was on http://www.mtbproject.com/ which was mostly great. just a few areas that hadn't been up dated and there were more trails than marked.

long run from Wendy's with Wendy and Clare. Nice rainy morning. struggled for the first hour with dodgy tummy, then happy to cruise along after that. Yummy breakfast at Lure afterwards.

Park O at Roma St. Nice course by Rachel with some good problems. I think I got most of them, but I took off in the wrong direction on the last long leg. Legs feeling tired, as expected.
Bonus club bbq afterwards, and I stuck around for the agm to make sure I didn't end up with any extra committee positions.

Running race 12:45 [5] 3.0 km (4:15 / km)

3k time trial, as required for OA squads. had very low expectations for this, and the results were worse... although it was a relatively cool evening, so it potentially might have been much worse.

1st km was ok - just under 4 mins and feeling quite comfortable, but about 200m into the second everything started to tighten up and it became quickly apparent that it was going to be a struggle to the finish. Katelyn came past then and gradually pulled away. I was pretty concerned that Caro would pass me too!

Hot yoga. Lots of upside down time in this class - forearm stands, handstands and headstands. new pb (at least for about the last 20 yrs) for handstand - managed to balance for 15 secs which I was pretty pleased about, but then things got a bit wayward on the headstands - after a minute or so I started losing sense of which way was up. I managed to hold it for a while longer by focusing on core strength but then just fell over in a heap.
