street o at Edenbrook. didn't manage to plan anything past the first few controls. mostly figured it out but miss-read the map and made a dumb mistake which added a heap of extra distance. lost motivation and struggled at the end.

intervals at UQ with James and Mark. 4x1km. first time I've done these in ages and it showed, very slow! missed the first one, 4.18, 4.31, 4.14.
need to do a few more of these obviously. could do with a few kg less also.

hot yoga class. bit more flexi than usual. class was tough, but warrior 1 really killed me. sweated buckets.

Orienteering race 56:20 [5] 8.8 km (6:24 / km) +70m 6:09 / km

went for a run around the red 2 course at the oy. the plan was to focus on running hard and consistently given the nav should be easy as I put out controls. it definitely wasn't as easy as I thought it might be. most of the control approaches were from the opposite direction and the forest all looks very similar. got around keeping good intensity although it got pretty tough at the end to keep the legs moving.

Running 1:07:00 [3] 10.8 km (6:12 / km) +450m 5:08 / km

Run from Clare's, with Clare for all, Su Yan for half and Mat and David for the start. ended up doing a faster but shorter run than usual. I'll be putting out controls this afternoon so good not to be completely stuffed.
Mat had made gf banana bread which was awesome for breaky, had a coffee from the new machine and tried out the hula hoop that Clare bought. also bought some new sunnies from Clare, yay!

Running race 33:18 [4]

street o at New farm. the rain stopped before the start and it was a really nice night for running. the course was quite tricky. it turns out I picked the same route as Rachel who is back in Brisbane on holiday.
felt good running towards the end - the first time in ages. still got smashed by Rach.

Orienteering race 1:00:50 [5] 6.6 km (9:13 / km) +165m 8:12 / km

oy at goomburra. I was expecting this to be a bit steep and junky but the forest was beautifully runnable. started slowly and miss read the end of the first leg and ended up at the men's control. Heather caught me 3 mins there already. did better after that but struggled physically. all the hill surges yesterday hadn't left much in my legs. caught Tamsin near the end, and .then made a stupid mistake on the last control and completely overshot. lost another 3 mins there.
not a great run in the end, but managed to run a bit harder than was comfortable. pretty smashed at the end.

checked splits. looks like the mistake at the end was more like 4 1/2 mins. oops - total brain fade at the end.
also found that I've got a decent scratch up the back of my leg from not quite clearing a barbed wire fence. should leave trying to hurdle them for days that I'm feeling a bit more springy.

long run from my place with Clare, and Mark and Mat at the start. I was quite slow at the start, but then got going despite feeling very tired. tried to keep the pace solid and died a bit in the last 10mins.

back to the physio to have another go at my ankle. the plan is to take a more aggressive approach to keeping it mobilised. hopefully it starts to improve soon.

Run in Anzac park with Dan. Took 20mins to warm up, had 5mins of feeling great then the ankle stiffened and I plodded home.

Orienteering long 3:15:00 [2]

Checking control sites for the OY at camel farm near wivenhoe dam. Took a while to get some of the controls in vague areas cos I had to check off a few different things. The area is really good, a bit like Collins creek before the Lantana. Super runnable but still tricky enough to be a good challenge. Maybe now the best area east of the range?

Easy run in Anzac park. Stopped at the chin up bar. Turns out my chin up awesomeness of a couple of weeks ago was a fluke. Managed 3 proper ones. Gave the ankle a bit of a twinge but it settled down ok to run home. Ice after.
Generally felt much better than i expected to running tonight.

Orienteering race 1:24:26 [5] 10.2 km (8:17 / km)

NOL and WOC trial long at Boboyan divide.
My main plan for this race was to do everything completely differently to the middle. Start calmly, run within myself and always know exactly where I was going. I also made sure I avoided the green and the rough stuff as much as possible as I knew I wasn't strong enough to really push through it.
The race went completely to plan, and although I never felt fast I had a really smooth race and didn't make any errors. Was surprised to see Aislinn come running past on the way into the second last control, having started 2mins in front and not seeing her the whole way round.

Running was ok, although going much faster wasn't an option. Su Yan's ankle fixing trick before the start worked really well and made it at least 1/3 of the way around before it started to tighten up and affect my stride.

Orienteering race 20:55 [5] 3.0 km (6:58 / km)

NOL and WOC trial sprint at CSIRO black mountain.
Had a strange start to the day. Felt rushed and disorganised and didn't feel like I'd warmed up properly. Started ok - nice long easy leg... although I luckily realised that the last bit into the control was going to be much trickier than the map had indicated and slowed right down. The next two controls were totally random. nothing on the map, but very thick and heaps of detail on the ground. got through these ok and caught up to Heather and Mary here. Gradually reeled them in over the next few easy controls in the open building/park area.
Also caught Grace at 7?, but she got away again quite quickly. From there the navigation got more and more intense. I didn't see Heather again but Mary stuck on. I had a few small errors in this part of the course, but nothing major (read the overpass as an uncrossable wall etc), and generally happy that I kept the navigation smooth. Happy enough with how I ran on very limited training.
Great course, although a little long.

Orienteering race 1:02:20 [5] 5.4 km (11:33 / km)

NOL and WOC trial middle at Orroral. Complete disaster.
I decided that this could be a good race for me and that I should really try and attack it. That worked well on #1, but then I overshot 2 and got a bit flustered. Had a bit of an extra run-around checking rocks on 3, way off on compass for 4, crunched my ankle badly on 5... etc. kept compounding until I completely lost the plot on 10 and took ages to relocate. Al and then Lizzie caught me here and I ran with them for a couple of controls. good reminder to slow down instead of rushing, and orienteer properly.
they got away after it started going uphill and I ran out of go after starting too hard and getting too pissed off with myself. Staggered into the finish. very annoyed.

Street o at Indooroopilly, set by Matias. Good course, just cruised around as I didn't want to smash myself before the weekend.
