run home from work. not very quick or comfortable as I ate too much at a work afternoon tea (had been starving) and burped chili dip all the way home :-(
forgot to stretch after as dinner was ready when I got home, so now itbs are really sore.

Mtb ride at Daisy hill. really fun ride to start with (if a little cold), but then the free-hub broke and threw me off the bike. it would catch enough to pedal for a while, but then it would go again. took the short cut back to the car, but managed to bash my knee when it went again riding out the last trail.

Long run from Rachel's. Decided it was time to do some proper training and followed dan's training advice which was to start the long run fast to keep up with Rachel and the guys and hope that my legs would come good after the first half hour. It sort of worked except for the good legs bit. Turned into a bit of a suffer fest, but ended up running further and faster than I have in years on one of these runs.

Orienteering race 33:00 [5] 6.75 mi (4:53 / mi)

Street O at ashgrove east. Decided to skip all the really hilly ones. Started in a group with Mikko, matias and Brenton. Got past Brenton about a third of the way through, then we all went different ways. Route was about 100m longer than the shortest option. now I just need to get faster.

Orienteering race 1:42:18 [5] 11.6 km (8:49 / km)

NOL long race. I was prepared for an epic after yesterdays slowness and started out a bit conservatively. The first few controls in the creek were tricky and I had a couple of small misses on these. went straight at the start of the long leg, then took the spur up past 13 onto the track. got caught by Rachel along the track (was pleased to have stayed in front that long!), then did my best to not stick with her on the next couple of legs by taking stupid routes though the green, but was still running with her on the way to 9... until suddenly I wasn't and I didn't really have a clue. had a bit of a space-out in the vague green, before working out that I'd gone about far enough and was probably too high. headed down the hill to re-locate, and found the rocks that were just above the control - 3mins lost, but could have been so much worse.

got caught by Aislinn after the second long leg, then we proceeded to stuff up the next 2 controls - very annoying to have all my (relative) time losses on the tricky ones - where has my navigation gone? then ran with Aislinn until we took different routes into the spectator control. I think mine worked better, cos I got ahead and didn't see her again. tried to make the most of the last loop to fit in some more mistakes - got the track junctions mixed up and headed off the map heading out on the loop, then miss read the creek around 18.

generally happy with the race, and felt much better racing than I'd expected. bit pissed off to make those stupid mistakes, but it was probably partly due to running harder than my fitness allowed for.

Orienteering race 19:57 [5] 2.5 km (7:59 / km)

Sprint race fail. the tricky campus map should have suited me, but I completely failed to interpret the map on the way to #1 and took the left route choice, and stood around for a while trying to figure the map out, so lost 40secs on 1, then over-ran #2 and lost another 30secs. got myself together a bit after that and at least started hitting controls ok, but wasn't running well and struggled physically for the rest of the course. had expected my legs to let me down, but shouldn't have made such dumb mistakes at the start.

Orienteering race 37:12 [5] 5.2 km (7:09 / km)

NOL middle distance. legs still feeling heavy and dead like the morning sprint, but managed to not navigate as badly. ran pretty cleanly except for a vague out on 8 where I should have just run for the top of the hill.
I'm sick of being slow, racing hard is way more fun. maybe I need to do some training.

Long run with Rachel, Katelyn and bree from the Effeney's. Did a lap of the lake, which was my suggestion but didn't turn out awesome. Plenty of mud and long grass and millions of huge spiderwebs. Got done by one that completely cocooned me and took ages to get off. kept up with Rachel, or at least managed to run fast enough that she didn't get too bored, which I'd definitely better than I've managed for a while.

beers in the woods. mtb ride in bunya forest for will's 40th. Matt and Kathy had hidden beers in the forest at various points on the ride. Had some issues with riding under the influence but managed not to crash. Found that the new 29 er and I bonded quite well over a few beers.

Intervals in Anzac park with Mat. 4 x 200 m uphill around the ring road. 2.14, 2.14, 2.11, 2.15. Much quicker than I thought I was going to run. Feet are still getting used to the idea of running again and got some decent blisters, including a nice big blood blister under my big toe.
