missed Rachel's msg about doing sprint training, but decided I'd better do something. felt a bit better than yesterday so decided to do the loop around through chapel hill res. good run, but tired at the end, and got blisters from my new shoes.

run with Clare from my place. Mark and Rachel did a longer run, but Clare and I were suffering from the residual effects of lack of training, illness and excess alcohol, so we did a shorter run. had nearly bailed on this entirely, but glad I crawled out of bed.

shoes: Vibram 5 fingers - speed

sprint training at UQ with Rachel and Mark, set by Wendy. Tricky course, mainly due to control locations, which always seemed to be the most complicated version of whatever was in the circle. we had plenty of warning about reading control descriptions, but I still managed to stuff up a few.
Started first out of the 3 of us, and had a really good start, but the legs fell off just after halfway and I started making stupid mistakes, so Rachel and Mark both went past in quick succession.
good reminder that some speedwork is probably required. maybe soon.

wore the 5-fingers - awesome to run in and feel really fast, but calves got really sore. probably should wear them a bit more.

Badge event at Collins Creek. Entered M21 cos the W21 course had seemed a little short when I was looking at the options on wednesday, but was regretting it this morning when I turned up tired from yesterdays run, and somewhat sleep deprived and hungover after a tour party last night. plan was just to cruise around and have a long terrain run.
Started out a bit wobbly - the lantana has grown up heaps and its really hard to hold a line, so I had no idea where I was when I hit the creek. did a bit better after that and got lucky a few times. started feeling a bit better, but wasn't too bothered with running hard... but then my plan for a cruisy day out was thwarted when Mikko caught me at the map change. from then the pace was up, and we had a good race to the finish. not quite my plan, but certainly got the run over and done with a lot quicker!

long run from Rachel's place, with Rachel, Mark and Katelyn for the first part. out and back run along south boundary rd. Rachel was obviously feeling pretty good and smashed us all, Mark had some back cramp thing going on and was running like grandpa and I was just my usual saturday morning slow. was a cold rainy morning, but there seemed to be heaps of runners out, although maybe it just seemed that way cos there were hardly any cyclists.

run home from work. this must be my longest run on flat pavement for quite a while and it was a bit of a quad killer. also, the old run home was about 10mins less, and I really could have done without the extra 10 last night.
left the office at 5.10, so was pretty motivated to get home to watch the tour.

finished work early (in daylight!), so did the "afternnoon loop". across to slaughter falls, up the stairs to the summit, down frosties to chapel hill and back through anzac park. took a while to get going after sitting in a car for way too long (and not running in a while), but felt pretty good by the end.

backed up with an hour of "strength" work - wielding a mini sledgehammer in my bathroom. renovation is so much fun - our neighbours must really hate us!

Long run from Clare's, with Mark and Clare (for the first 10mins). I've been thinking it has been time to start doing proper long runs again (for the first time in 6months), and declared that I wanted to do 2 hrs today. Clare got scared off and bailed to do her own thing after the first run into the forest, but Mark was happy enough to go along with my craziness.

Unfortunately my long run plan hadn't considered the fact that I haven't actually many proper long runs in a long time, I wasn't feeling too great this morning, and Mark ran just a bit faster than I'd like. The first hour was fine, but then things started getting tough, and we still had the biggest hills to go. I was definitely considering bailing at that point, but fortunately Mark reminded me of the sledging I had dished out pre-run, so I kept going. Last half hour really hurt, and I was very happy to jump in the pool at the end and freeze my legs.
