Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 35.0 km (2:09 / km)

boring river loop

Wednesday May 28, 2008 #

Note

was going to head out for a ride this morning, but 2 nights of insomnia has turned me in to a vegetable. will see if my itb will cope with a run this afternoon to increase the chances of me sleeping tonight.

Running 20:00 [2]
(injured)

loop around uni. knee started to hurt about half way so stopped to stretch. lots of stretching when I got home, but nothing seems to help it get better. poo.

Monday May 26, 2008 #

Gym 50:00 [4]

gym. seriously lacking motivation, but I guess thats what bec is for.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

cruisy mtb ride at gap creek (...well it was cruisy for Dan and Nick - I seemed to be working really hard!). Seemed to have forgotten how hard mtbing really is - especially the hills. Walked a couple of things I usually ride, but I didn't crash, and that was the main goal after not riding for so long.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

got the courtesy call last night to say I got reserve in the team. Disappointed, but I think it was always going to be a long shot when I could only start training again after easter. 6 weeks training is not enough to make a woc team!

Big congrats to the team - all the girls are running really well and I wish them all the best in Czech. You're going to have so much fun!!

I think I might take a couple of days off running now - my knee is really sore!. Might dust off the mtb which I've abandoned for the past few months.

Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 33.0 km (2:16 / km)

hauled my sleepy carcass out of bed for a river loop. decided not to ride with any of the usual groups this morning cos I'd be too slow. good decision - the old bod is way too used to being asleep at that time of day and I wasn't going quick. met the guys at the cafe for breakfast. scambied eggs on tough toast. first coffee was pissweak, but they made me a better one.

Running hills 28:35 [4] 5.2 km (5:30 / km)

Anzac park time trial... except it wasn't much of a time trial. felt pretty flat and wasn't really up for a smashfest so just ran around (which is hard enough there!). itb started to hurt towards the end. it was sore on the weekend, but has been fine for the last couple of days. lots of streching!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

just the usual.

Monday May 19, 2008 #

Gym 50:00 [4]

training at Race. I sucked.

Orienteering race (long distance trial) 1:14:52 [5] 8.9 km (8:25 / km) +360m 7:00 / km

Finally had a good run! Bingo control for 1, and lost some time (maybe 2mins) there, but lucky not to be heaps more from what I've heard! the rest was good, and I caught Shannon at 3, then missed a bit on 7 cos I didn't go far enough up the gully and went around to the next rocks and looked around to see Shannon and Jo go past. Quick trip back to the control, then flat out down the hill to get back on the train. Jo was absolutely flying through the next couple of controls, but then she stopped at the drinks control, and got caught up at the creek, and we swapped turns at the front heaps for the last section.
Felt pretty good at the end, and could have easily done a few more ks. I don't think I pushed hard enough in the first part of the course - I should have looked ahead at the full course earlier and seen that the second half was all down hill, but I guess I'd been expecting something nasty at the end. good to finally have a good run!

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2]

Saturday May 17, 2008 #

Orienteering race (Sprint trial) 20:04 [5] 2.3 km (8:43 / km) +85m 7:22 / km

started well, but totally lost the plot on 5 and couldn't relocate. eventually found myself at 8 cos I'd relocated off totally the wrong thing and headed in the wrong direction after I started stuffing up. lost about 3mins there, and then took a fairly major detour to 13? on the rocky ground which cost about another minute.

Orienteering race 38:02 [5] 4.3 km (8:51 / km) +115m 7:48 / km

Middle distance trial at Littlechild creek. Got 1 ok, but missed on 2 (2mins), and after this mornings debarcle decided to back off a little to avoid running round like a headless chook again. did the rest of the course nearly clean, but in the end was a bit too slow.

feel ok running now, but desperately short of race practice!

Running warm up/down 1:00:00 [2]

early morning run + warm up and warm down for 2 races.

Friday May 16, 2008 #

Orienteering 25:00 [3]

got into st helens in time for a short run on constable creek before it got dark.

Note
(rest day)

yeah!

Running hills 27:29 [3]

decided not to smash myself this week and ran with Bridget... who wanted to run a pb, so I yelled at her to run faster. She did - by about 20secs I think. She goes pretty quick on the downs and flats - I recon I only get any time on her usually on the hills.

felt pretty good running, and starting to feel a bit less tired - yay!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Tuesday May 13, 2008 #

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

yogurt.
the relaxy bit at the end is always way too short - just as I'm about to fall asleep they wake us up again. so unfair!

Monday May 12, 2008 #

Gym 50:00 [4]

training at RaceE. recovery week this week, but I still sucked. really tired!

Sunday May 11, 2008 #

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

ran the aus middle champs on cascades backwards putting out tapes.

Orienteering 34:50 [5] 3.7 km (9:25 / km)

ran the aus middle champs. putting out tapes hadn't really helped - I still made a few mistakes, and didn't end up running the same way, so only recognised the first bit leaving each control. time was a couple of mins down on winning time from 2004, but I did make a few mistakes, and I think its a fair bit thicker now. felt like I was running pretty well, but tired after running in terrain again for 2 days. hopefully it pays off next weekend!

Note

I think we had a good little training camp, but dan did a good job of making our training efforts seem a bit pathetic - he decided to come to stanthorpe too, but he rode there and back - total was 270km and 13hrs of hilly backroads, mostly dirt.

Saturday May 10, 2008 #

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

compass exercise at amiens. dodgy part of the map, so just ended up bashing through thick shit the whole way.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

putting out tapes for control picking. alternated between nasty thick scrub and really fun areas of bare rock.

Orienteering 50:00 [4]

speed control exercise - long legs with fast sections and really technical controls. did good on most of them, but really screwed one up and took a while to relocate.

Friday May 9, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

pretty tired at the moment, so ditched training yesterday and got a massage. rest day today.
tomorrow we're going to amiens and cascades for a little weekend training camp.

Wednesday May 7, 2008 #

Running hills 26:59 [5] 5.2 km (5:11 / km)

anzac park time trial. slow this week, and felt bloody awful. usually get going after the first few hills, but this week I just hit the wall. not getting smashed by rachel was my only motivation to keep going. struggled home, and managed to pass rachel on the last hill.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Tuesday May 6, 2008 #

Gym 45:00 [5]

hard session this week at Race. didn't feel too bad though, and I think I've recovered ok from Sunday.

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

Running 42:00 [3] 7.0 km (6:00 / km) +300m 4:56 / km

Fraser run from Central station to Lake McKenzie. Track was really sandy and slow, and legs were really slower.

Sunday May 4, 2008 #

Running long 3:13:00 [3] 28.0 km (6:54 / km) +1050m 5:48 / km

Long run at Fraser Island. Great walk track from Lake Garawongera to Lake Wabby. Surprisingly flat (which was good), and also the track wasn't too sandy. All good for the first 20ks, but the last few started to bite. Awesome run down the sand hill straight into the lake at the end!

Thursday May 1, 2008 #

Running warm up/down 20:00 [4] 5.0 km (4:00 / km)

decided its time to go back to training with Pat Clohessys squad. Their sessions start and finish with a 20min 5k (xc, in the dark), so you have to take you A game. made it through the warm up with the guys this week. hurt.

Running hills 15:00 [5]

3x3 hills. legs were going a bit wobbly on the last set.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

warm down with the girls.
