Orienteering race 1:06:00 [3] 9.6 km (6:52 / km)

National League mass start loop race at Sparrow Hill. Still feeling a bit dodgey after yesterday, and it was pretty obvious from early on that I wasn't going to be able to run hard, but I decided that cruising around the course was still going to be heaps more fun than spectating so just took it easy. fun course and really nice forest for running.

Orienteering race 13:19 [5] 2.3 km (5:47 / km)

Galaxy sprint. good run, except got mixed up by the stuff on different levels and had to do a bit of a detour, lost about 20secs.

Orienteering race 11:00 [5] 1.8 km (6:07 / km)

Leg 2 of the mixed relay. Bridget got a good start so went off just behind the pack. was good for the first half of the course, but lunch started to make a comeback on the second half.

Orienteering race 13:00 [5] 1.9 km (6:51 / km)

Leg 4 of the mixed relay. had a quick chuck on the way to #1 and felt marginally better, but not enough to really run hard. got passed by reuben near the end, but we still beat one of the other teams!!

Running warm up/down 40:00 [2]

for all races

Orienteering (Easter Day 3) 57:57 [4] 5.6 km (10:21 / km)

nice course, but way too tired after yesterday and made heaps of stupid mistakes. kathryn had an awesome run, and despite starting only 16 seconds ahead of me I didn't see her after the first leg.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Sunday Mar 23, 2008 #

Orienteering race (Easter Day 2) 1:11:51 [5] 8.3 km (8:39 / km)

Awesome run today. Saw Kirsten at the first control and caught her at the second and we ran the rest together. Less than a minute of mistakes the whole course, and ran really hard (maybe too hard for day 3!). finished up 2nd. very pleased with the run.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Saturday Mar 22, 2008 #

Orienteering race (Easter Day 1) 36:14 [4] 3.0 km (12:05 / km)

Had a shocking start, and got caught 4mins on the second control. made some more mistakes on 3 and ended up losing 5-6 mins overall. got it together after that though, and the rest of the course was pretty good.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Orienteering race (Easter Prologue) 17:09 [5] 2.7 km (6:21 / km)

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Running 45:00 [3]

my usual recovery plod to try and wake the legs up before the weekend. took 6mins longer than usual. I'm so unfit!!

Wednesday Mar 19, 2008 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1]

Orienteering lesson in Toohey forest for Dan. He finally decided that it might be useful to learn how to orienteer a bit before he runs on the weekend (I think he got scared looking at the easter maps). Figured it out pretty quickly. seems to have the general concept of 'think first, run second' sorted, which is promising!

Tuesday Mar 18, 2008 #

Cycling 1:25:00 [3] 35.0 km (2:26 / km)

river loop with Dan, Lisa and Bernie. first ride for a while (bike was making many noises associated with extended neglect), but didn't feel too bad. getting fairly optimistic that I'm actually getting better now!

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

yoga class. badly needed stretch!

Monday Mar 17, 2008 #

Gym 50:00 [2]

Went to Race today to try and wake my poor body up from its no-exercise coma. felt heaps better than I have in the last few weeks, but still not back to normal.

will try and do a few light sessions this week to try and get everything moving ok before the weekend.

Note
(sick)

another day, another doc. finally got to see the sports doc this morning, and he recons its almost definitely due to massive side affects of the roaccutane I've been on. this is despite the dermatologist telling me that it caused muscle pain, but there was no way it could be making me sick too. Apparently its reasonably common that it totally wipes out athletes, but because that's a small group of people who take it anyway it took a sports doc to actually know.
anyhow, I stopped taking it after the weekend anyhow - another of the known side affects is blisters, and after the lot I copped on the weekend I decided I'd had enough (very little unblistered skin left to walk on). So now its just a matter of how long it takes to get out of my system.

Note
(sick)

seem to have gotten worse since the weekend.
Doc seems to think its not some nasty virus, but has some crazy idea about cumulative stress and fatigue and recons my body has just crapped out on me, and that I really need to take it easy for a while. Told her I was way too busy for that - can I have a pill to fix it please?!

Monday Mar 10, 2008 #

Gym 1:00:00 [3]
(sick)

training at race elements. I sucked, and I really couldn't do anything hard. just did easy weights, and had lots of extra rests. still good to do something though... but I think I might need a nana nap now!

Sunday Mar 9, 2008 #

Orienteering race 1:18:00 [4] 7.8 km (10:00 / km)
(sick)

NOL at Mt Beckworth. two races in a row was just way too much for me at the moment!, and despite the earlier start it was still bloody hot. felt like I was cruising along ok at the start, but got caught and passed by julia (2mins?) at the end of the first (flat) loop. had a gel at the pivot control, which held things together for a little bit longer, but really started losing time over the second loop - had to walk up all the hills, and was slow going down too. made mistakes on the last few controls - too tired to think properly. scored some awesome blisters as well!!

Saturday Mar 8, 2008 #

Orienteering race 53:24 [3] 6.0 km (8:54 / km)
(sick)

NOL relays at spring gully. last runner for the Qld team, and fortunately went out after the clouds came over which cooled it down a little. nice run and a fun course, but pushing hard really wasn't an option. still, happy to get around feeling ok, and always fun to orienteer in good mining terrain.

Thursday Mar 6, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

possibly less crap than I have been. considering the possiblity of doing some light exercise to see if that will help. would like to do a small jog at least before the weekend.

Running 20:00 [2]

slow, but didn't feel too bad, and didn't feel like I was going to die.

Tuesday Mar 4, 2008 #

Note
(sick)

sick again. same sick as nov-jan. been to the doc and still no ideas. not happy.

Saturday Mar 1, 2008 #

Running long 1:28:00 [3]

felt like crap. wanted to do 2 hrs but that just wasn't an option this morning. think I'm going to be sleeping the rest of the weekend.
