Gym session with Imo at Race Elements. Had Nick instead of Simon training us this time - he's much nicer!!

more sick. back at work today though, so I'm slowly getting better. sore throat still seems to be getting worse though, even though I'm not feeling so totally crap any more.

OY at maryboro. ran the long course cos thats what I pre-entered, but it was a really bad idea. I had felt ok in the morning, but things started getting really messy half way round. made a really dumb mistake on the last control cos I was totally out of it. heart rate was way too high given that I was struggling to even run for most of the course. oh well. still finished 2nd - what was going on with everyone else!!
I think I should take it easy for a couple of days and make sure I get over this bug properly before easter.

Wednesday troll. stayed with the lead group the whole way - even over the hills, and didn't get dropped on the corso even tho the pace was mid 50s.

Anzac park loop with Rachel. pb for that run by 2mins, but it felt easier than the last fast one which was 2 weeks ago. Julia started with us, but didn't make it past the second hill. Rachel ran really well and held on to the second last hill. world of pain.

Climbing at Kangaroo Point. Was particularly unimpressive and kept falling off on really easy stuff. my arms just wouldn't work - maybe all the blood was still in my legs after that hill session.

run down to the track and around uni before and after hills. starting to think that keeping up with the guys on their warm up and warm down runs is better training than the intervals!

hills - 3 sets of 3 hills with long jog recoveries between sets. felt a bit flat and slow, especially on the second set. I was a bit surprised to get my heart rate that high, cos I hadn't been feeling to great all day.

Collins Creek. ran the long red, but it was much more like orange (green!) nav - one glance at the map every leg was quite sufficient. Felt pretty good running and it was open and fast and fun terrain to run in. don't remember collins creek being that flat either.

Long run from the Andersons. out and back along south boundary rd in Brisbane forest park. Felt pretty crap on the way out, but remembered how to run on the way home - out in 66, back in 59 (back was more downhill). Felt pretty comfortable running at the end which I was pleased about. the pool at the finish was much appreciated!

Trolls friday smashfest. new record trolls ride - ave 36.5kph for the river loop (my time is the extra to and from the city). didn't get dropped till the corso, which is good for me on a normal troll day, so I was quite happy with my ride.

Got my sand delivery for the next series of experiments I'm running at uni... so spent the morning shovelling 5 cubic metres of sand into drums. nice hot day for it too.
Was real fun and games trying to teach my soil science prac class all afternoon.

trolls. wednesday social troll was actually something resembling a social pace. a couple of guys took off early, but we just let them go. pace got going along the corso, but I felt good this morning and managed to get to the top of the hills with the front of the group instead of the groupetto like ususal.
Bike week this week, and this morning was 'ride to work day' so free breakfast in the city. hooked into the free juices, iced coffees and bananas and had a stomach ache all the way home.

the last few easy days seem to be working a treat. was feeling totally crap at the end of last week, but now feeling fresh and fast again. a few more easy days, then I'll get back into smashfest mode for a few more weeks before easter.
I think fridays troll ride will be the start of that - the guys were plotting this morning.

Rock Climbing at Kangaroo Point. First time climbing since christmas, but I kind of remembered how. did 3 17s and attempted a 19, but it got too much like hard work and my arms had had enough so I called it quits on that one.

2 laps of uni (before and after hills) with pats middle distance group. main topic of discussion was the 3k steeple on friday night and 'the trip'... for which pete was denying any responsibility.

6 laps of pats hill loop - surge the hill and cruise the rest. the guys ran at a fairly casual pace which meant I could mostly keep up.

spent the weekend at straddie - had to take a bunch of first year enviro science students on a field trip, so got paid to spend the weekend on a tour of the island (with significant time at the beach).
discovered on the way over that I was covering the groundwater hydrology section of the field trip as well as the soil science, so there was some work (and homework) involved.

seems like this week's rides have all been much easier than usual. I'd like to think its cos I'm getting some cycling fitness back, but I think that might be a little optimistic.

trolls. bit slower this morning cos it rained for most of the ride. some of the hills were a bit scary with wet useless brakes. got a slow flat right at the end, but managed to roll home as it was still going gooey. I guess that's a job for this afternoon.

Anzac park hill run with Rachel.
I went a bit to hard to start with and after the first 10mins it was stuggle fest for me, especially as then Rachel decided to take off, so the next 10 mins were total pain. Then Rach totally blew up and started cramping, so the last km was a slow jog/walk back to the car. Total time was till 1min quicker than I've done the run before, so its not surprising we were stuffed!

Trolls. small group this morning, slower than usual, and one of the scariest rides I've ever been on.
erica's psyco ex-boyfriend/stalker turned up and tried to ride with the group, and then started screaming abuse at everyone, and erica's dad in particular (fortunately erica had slept in and didn't make it this morning) and trying to run him off the road. after much persuasion from the other guys in the group he eventually pissed off, but turned up twice more to try the same thing. what a total asshole!

mt coottha run from wendy's with the cyclones. was thinking about running a bit longer, but decided against it as I haven't actually done a long run since january and I didn't want to stir up any injuries. the run ended up being quite quick, and julz and I were pushing the hills pretty hard.

mtb at gap creek with erica and martin. pretty cruisy pace, but definitely as fast as I'd want to go on a hot afternoon.

haven't been out on the mtb for a while and felt totally unco - stepped of on heaps of stuff I've never had trouble with before a and nearly went over the hangers on the steps going down to lantana. kinda forgot how ridiculously good erica is compared to me and realised too late that there was no way I was riding the line she took. lucky my bailing skills are very well practiced!

4*2min efforts. ran pretty hard and the last one was a lot less than fun.

overall felt pretty good running tonight, its amazing how much difference having the morning off makes. would have liked to run for a bit longer after, but mum was coming over for dinner. in the end she was half an hour late - typical!
