Running 52:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:12 / km)

Cruise with the hash runners. Met an angry brown snake on the road, but one of the guys did the croc-hunter routine and chased it away.

Swim 37:00 [4] 1.5 km (24:40 / km)

Cycling 1:14:00 [4] 40.0 km (1:51 / km)

Running 46:00 [4] 10.0 km (4:36 / km)

Not-the-Noosa Triathlon. My first ever tri!! (and not something I really want to do again soon!) the whole swimming thing sucked, although I'm pretty pleased I managed to do it - the last time I tried to swim more than 2 laps was many years ago! Was so far behind after the swim that I did the whole ride by myself - just caught julz coming back into transition for the run, but she's too quick and I ended up cruising round the run on my own too. Not a bad morning out, and breakfast at the pelaton cafe went down very well after.
A bit sore now - can't lift my arms above my head!!

Cycling 1:54:00 [3] 50.0 mi (2:17 / mi)

Boonah group ride

Orienteering race (Park O) 22:45 [5] 4.2 km (5:25 / km)

Park O at UQ Ipswich. Very hot day - 35C with very hot wind which made running not so fun. Felt pretty crappy when I finished - don't think I drank enough during the day after the ride this morning.

Cycling 1:37:00 [3] 45.0 km (2:09 / km)

The usual loop out to Carneys Creek.

Running 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Went to Hash with Mum again this week, but this time I joined the runners... well for the first km at least, then I got bored and pissed off for a decent run. Not sure about the beer as a recovery beverage, but it went down pretty well.
Recruited a few more for our Saturday morning bike ride.

Orienteering race (Club relays) 15:00 [5] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Qld inter-club relays at the ACU campus in Banyo. My team, with Julian and Steph won, and Ugly-Gully did really well overall, but missed out on the overall percentage trophy.

Cycling 1:45:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:06 / km)

Went for a ride with the group from Boonah. Found surprisingly good coffee in town after. The little town is changing a bit, wasn't so long ago that coffee in this place meant 'international roast'.

Cycling 1:10:00 [2] 30.0 km (2:20 / km)

Yay - finally got to go out training. Took it pretty easy and didn't feel so great on the hills, but it was great to finally be able to do something!

Note
(sick)

Went to Boonah Hash and walked with mum. About 30mins I think. Good to be doing something thats not lying on the couch feeling miserable. Maybe I can train soon!?!

Note
(sick)

Still sick, still coughing up tonnes of yucky stuff. this really sucks, I wish I could train again.

Saturday Oct 14, 2006 #

Note
(sick)

Still sick, but feeling a lot better now that I've had some sleep. Hopefully I'll be back on deck soon.

Note
slept:0.0 (sick)

Caught the red-eye flight home from Perth last night and feel like total crap today. Looks like I'll be taking a few days off training.

MTBO race 21:07 [5] 4.5 km (4:42 / km)
(sick)

Australian Sprint Champs in Perth. Quite a fun area - I think its their state champs downhill course. Very complex track network, and plenty of magpies to distract you while you try and figure out the map.
Still feeling sick, and getting worse after yesterday's ride in the freezing rain.
1st.

MTBO race 1:29:00 [5] 23.0 km (3:52 / km)
(sick)

Australian Long distance champs, Bunbury WA. Woke to screaming wind and horizontal rain, along with an extreme weather warning - 'avoid driving and stay indoors'... surely the race will be cancelled?!
Race was still on, the wind wasn't quite so bad inland, but didn't have any warm riding gear with me, so just wore all the thermals I had (and didn't manage to warm up for the whole course).
The race was mostly ok, and I didn't make any mistakes, but a track that was marked on the map didn't exist on the cround. I ended up losing nearly 5 mins riding around, and lost the race by less than one minute. Put in a protest, to which the jury responded with - 'yes the map is wrong, but we don't care enough to do anything'... not really good enough at a national champs race.

MTBO race 51:00 [5] 14.0 km (3:39 / km)
(sick)

Australian Middle distance champs, Bunbury WA. Quite a cool little course, including a couple of jumps on the way to the start triangle. Nearly collided with Mary a couple of times. 1st, Cath 2nd, Mary 3rd.

Sunday Oct 8, 2006 #

Orienteering race 42:00 [5] 5.7 km (7:22 / km)

Australian Relay Champs. Ran in a cyclones team with Wendy first leg, Rachel second and me third. First two runners started well and I managed to catch 4 of the runners in front before the spectator control. Jo had about a 10min lead, and finished 1st for the Cockatoos, but we were second!
Feeling pretty tired and sore after yesterday, but it was a really fun course and a great way to finish the week - I'm just glad I didn't have to fight it out in a sprint finish up that last hill.
Congrats to the Victorian girls for their great race after an absolute shocker of a weekend!

Orienteering race 1:16:00 [5] 9.0 km (8:27 / km)

Woo Hoo!! Australian Long Distance Champion!! I certainly didn't see this one coming!!
I was pretty tired from coaching the Qld Schools team all week, and I didn't really get a chance to think about the race until that morning, which I think in the end helped quite a lot. Because I hadn't been running much in the last few months I figured my only option was to take it really carefully and avoid losing major lots of time in the rock. My plan worked and although I felt like I was going really slowly at times I managed to avoid making any significant mistakes.
What a great way to end the season!!

Note
(rest day)

Short swim at the beach to sort my legs out before tomorrow.

Thursday Oct 5, 2006 #

Orienteering race 14:01 [5] 2.8 km (5:00 / km)

Australian Sprint Champs. Stuffed up the first control and lost heaps of time. Did the rest of the course ok, but it was really all over by then. Grace and AnnaQ are just too quick on terrain like that!

Wednesday Oct 4, 2006 #

Orienteering race 22:40 [5] 4.0 km (5:40 / km)

Ran the junior girls course after the schools relay. One of the kids had told me before I started that they did it in 20mins, so I was a bit worried when I was already at 15 at the spectator control, but it turns out they took 25 (can't let the little kids beat me!). Really nice area and quite a fun, fast course.

Tuesday Oct 3, 2006 #

Orienteering race 42:00 [5] 6.4 km (6:34 / km)

National league race on the schools champs senior girls course. The Qld kids had just won the schools champs individual day and set me a challenge to break 40mins, unfortunately a mistake on #6 did for that, and a few controls that I ran past later on. So much fun after the weekends races - so fast and easy!!

Sunday Oct 1, 2006 #

Orienteering race 1:15:00 [5] 7.5 km (10:00 / km)

WA champs day 2. Started pretty averagely, lost a bit of time on the first control and didn't really get going on the first part of the course. Got caught by Al and Jo on the way to 8 and decided it was time to stop stuffing around. Managed to stay with Jo to the finish, even though it hurt a lot and thought I was going to get dropped much earlier. A good reminder of what speed I should be orienteering at!
