Orienteering race 40:00 [4]

Aus Relay. ended up in the mass start after Helen went on a little extra tour. super tired and never really found like I got going. fun little run. was all good until the second last when I overheated a bit and stopped reading the map - drifted off towards the road. finished in token 3rd, but as I started in the mass start it was up to the times of jenny and georgia, both of who finished well within the margin they needed to beat us - I think I needed to run 15mins quicker to move up a place.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2]

putting out controls, and a couple of sprint intervals to change SI units at the other end of the map mid event.

Orienteering 1:35:00 [3]

test run around about 2/3 of the W21e long course. includes double checking control sites. Interesting course - a big adventure with lots of variety of terrain. Heaps of wildflowers out, including a little purple orchid that was a bit like the spider orchids they have in SA. There has been heaps of rain (and it was very cold and raining when I ran), and the whole map is flowing with water. all the little creeks are flooded.

Note

brought my running shoes up to katherine, but its just too hot. still high 30s until after sunset and I already feel pretty rough after working in the sun all day.

Running 1:03:00 [3] 11.7 km (5:23 / km)

Run with Rachel, and Lance and Wendy for the first 1/3. From new farm park into the city, goodwill bridge and story bridge. The others did the maprunners course afterwards, but my feet were complaining of blisters. rushed coffee afterwards, with the best scrambled eggs on toast I've had in ages.

Running 12:00 [2]

managed 12mins before itb started being shit, so went home to do o-shit for aus champs. itb/hip is shit because I'm spending too much time sitting at the computer.... so just added another 3 hours to a full work day. oh well.

More control stands out. Close ones today. All done except the easy ones on the track.

Orienteering 1:07:00 [4]

Test ran the w21e course to check times. Figured it was still a reasonable test. I knew the control sites but not all from the right direction but was pretty tired from 2 days on the forest. Was going ok but then got suckered onto the wrong bare rock. That compounded into the kind of mistake that only maps like the cascades can dish out. And of course then made some wrong assumptions about where i was to relocate. .. oops. Eventually found another control i put out, relocated and headed back to the start of the leg to resume my test run. Second try was fine but i got pretty tired by the end of the course.

Cascades. Putting out control stands for the middle champs. Cold and rainy for the first half. Some very tricky areas.
Lots of reason last night meant the map was flowing with water. Pretty but slippery. Also heaps of wildflowers out.
