easy run in anzac park. in something like daylight for a while, so optimistically didn't take lights.

Orienteering race 39:57 [4] 4.5 km (8:53 / km)

Aus middle champs. similar story to yesterday, except I think I had a bit more expectation. I found the map a bit harder to interpret, maybe because the features were bigger and harder to map. the run itself was a bit scrappier, and I let the big erosion push me around too much. it cost me a fair bit of time on 4, then again right at the end. finished up 3rd, but the run itself wasn't that great.

Orienteering race 38:34 [4] 4.4 km (8:46 / km)

Vic middle champs. low expectations of this as I was super tired before I started and had a bit of a dodgy tummy. started slow and carefully and just made sure I got the nav clean. really struggled on any of the running parts, and towards the end ended up running a bit with Liis which just showed up how slow I was going. turned out that not making mistakes was the key though, and ended up 2nd.

hot yoga. much sweat. New sequence that seems to involve a tie self in knot stage, then fold in half, then a headstand while still knotted and folded. this could take a while to master.

long run on coottha. late start after a sleep in, so it got a bit warm. explored a few nice new tracks.

massage afterwards. body is a bit ruined at the moment.

big day of gardening - we did a blitz on the front yard area of the unit block with our neighbours from units 2 & 5. many trees pruned and three gone, a tonne of green waste to the dump, 5 cubes of mulch over the gardens, top dressed and re-seeded the lawns. as brianne said - looks much less ghetto now!

Orienteering race 1:04:27 [4] 9.7 km (6:39 / km) +315m 5:43 / km

Qld champs day 2. Started the morning feeling a bit fragile but managed breakfast and decided my plan for the day was to take the running easy and focus on getting the nav as close to perfect as possible. worked well, and once I got going I felt much better than expected - even managed to take a gel part way round with out disastrous consequences. one mistake on 10 which cost me the race. oh well. really enjoyed the course and the area, but disappointed I couldn't race hard this weekend, and getting sick of all the creative ways my body has let me down recently.

Orienteering race 51:52 [5] 7.7 km (6:44 / km) +185m 6:01 / km

Qld champs day 1. this was a bad day out - guts started feeling a bit dodgy as I was getting ready and nearly missed my start as I had to take a few extra loo stops. things got unpleasant early on and I had to make an emergency stop. the rest of the way around was a battle to keep running. guts felt terrible and kept threatening to puke (never did - but may have helped) and was overheating.
all that pretty much took the fun out of the orienteering, which was a pity as it was a really nice area. managed to avoid too many big mistakes, but overshot quite a few controls which was a bit stupid. finished 5 mins behind krystal, which was a bit less than I'd expected.

felt pretty rotten all afternoon after the race and couldn't eat or drink enough so ended up with a cracker headache. managed dinner at the rsl though - roast of the day for the win.

Note

bailed on training last night (which would have been a ploddy lap of anzac park). quite glad I did cos it turns out that a bit later on police were looking for some guy for a bunch of violent assaults. there were a couple of choppers buzzing around till about midnight and the police were camped out in our street for a while. Not sure whether they got him.

run in anzac park, the first 2/3 with James before he gave up waiting for me (or I went the other way - not sure). all a bit like hard work.

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]

Daisy ride with Dan and Steve. took pink bike. should have been an easy spin, but ended up being properly hard. bike was being hateful - fork has been serviced and was worse than ever - turns out there was just about no rebound pressure, and rear shock was set a bit harsh (but at least it was working). also found that the combination of 26' and my old race setup was a bit much for my poor old spine and I was feeling pretty beaten up in the end.

Orienteering race 14:41 [4] 2.5 km (5:52 / km)

Sprint at St Pauls. Pretty reasonable run and felt much better than I'd expected to, given that I'd barely managed to break into a run when putting out some flags. good course setting by heather.

Training fail. work is busy and I'm feeling like I'm getting sick again. not happy.

In other news - we're trying to find 3 more people to fill our house in ballarat for the second weekend of aus champs. (thurs - fri - sat nights). let me know if you're interested.
