Running intervals (smt intervals) 20:00 [5]

10 x 400m intervals on 2mins at smt. slow track tonight - the oval has been top dressed and replanted, and it had rained so very squelchy, and slippery on the turns. slower tonight. really struggled to go fast, but that paid off a bit at the end cos the times didn't blow out.
90, 89, 90, 90, 87, 89, 88, 88, 87, 85.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

hot yoga class. lots of hip stretching. the heaters stayed on through the whole class so it was very hot tonight.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1]

tagging control sites for the cyclones OY at goolman (which is a couple of weeks after I get back from europe). hadn't been out there before - awesome area. runnable spur gully, not too steep and with scattered sandstone.
the map is still a work in progress (Geoff has a bit more to do on it), so I had some puzzled moments, but everywhere I wanted to put a control was fine.
not feeling too good running today. I thought yesterday that the cold that has been lurking was gone, but not so confident now.

Running long 1:33:00 [3] 13.5 km (6:53 / km)

Long run with Lance, from Lance and Wendy's. We did the original cyclones long run while Wendy did a run around the streets - her arm is still pretty stuff and she doesn't want to risk tripping over.
Our run was good. pretty steady pace, and lots of chat about o and training.
Very nice breakfast at Lure on Latrobe afterwards.

Note

I left my 2 pairs of grass seedy socks from the weekend on the balcony on Sunday arvo. went to clean them last night. 6 socks. some nasty business going on out there and I don't like it at all!

Orienteering race 2:40:36 [4] 21.0 km (7:39 / km) +800m 6:25 / km

Ultralong OY at Brooklands/Rosenthal. Piss poor number of entries on Hard 1 - just me and some rogaining guy. There was a big group of junior boys on Hard 2 which was about 14k. We had 4 legs - a short scatter (11 of 13 controls), then a long loop north, a long loop south and a short course to finish. Most of H1 and H2 took off on the long loop north together, although the other guy on H1 went straight down the wrong hill - he was clearly in for a long day. The long loop north was in the easy running country and cruised around pretty well - looked at my watch towards the end of the loop and was surprised to see I'd been out for an hour and done 10k... much further than I thought I'd gotten, but then started feeling a little tired.
Took my map for the second loop - which looked very familiar. Turns out our southern loops hadn't been printed... oops. A quick loop through the spare maps pile and I ended up with the southern loop map from H2, which was about the same distance, so took off on that loop after a little delay.
Southern loop was a bit tougher - a fair bit hillier and lots of fallen timber, with some tricky controls. Started finding it quite tough to keep running through the rough stuff on this loop.
Just the short finish loop to go... but got to the changeover to find that the maps had been packed up, so back through the map pile to find my map... my two biggest time losses for the day were looking for maps!
The annoyance of the second map stuff up got me halfway round the last loop, but the last hill coming home was quite a struggle to keep running, and I'd started having little cramps in my calves and hammies.

Very nice day out - pity about the map stuffups, and the lack of competition. The rogaine guy only made it around one loop.

Note

Dan is still sick... "I feel like a sprayed cockroach looking for somewhere to die."

Orienteering race 21:25 [4] 3.7 km (5:47 / km) +50m 5:25 / km

middle at Sandy creek, club event with pin punching, which really messed with keeping map contact. it was all up in the erosion in the north end and simeon set a good course. run was a bit scrappy but the map isn't that good either.

Note

Dan is sick :-(

Running hills (Anzac Park TT) 27:38 [5] 5.2 km (5:19 / km) +260m 4:15 / km

Similar story to last week. not really motivated, and decided not to push it too hard as I'm a bit worried I'll catch Dan's cold, but once I got going it was ok.

Running intervals (smt intervals) 20:00 [5]

10*400m on 2 mins... its getting a little repetitive, but its a good session and I haven't thought of anything better to do. feeling a bit flat tonight, and died a bit towards the end. it was drizzling slightly and the oval was a bit slippery. a bit slower this evening.
88, 86, 86, 86, 88, 88, 90, 91, 92, 91

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

there was a bunch of kids hanging out in the sheds at the oval. first time i've seen anyone there at night other than the occasional dog-walker. the strange part was they just seemed to be hanging out quietly listening to music... the weren't even smoking pot. kids these days.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

slow but hurty yoga class. different instructor who I didn't like. we seemed to hold all the lunging poses for ages - legs not happy. but then we did some good hip stretches at the end. helen turned up as well - she was even more annoyed by the airy fairy yoga talk than I was (she went to a morning class last week that turned out to be more meditation than exercise yoga and the instructor told them to breathe through their anus).

Running 1:02:00 [3] 10.2 km (6:05 / km) +650m 4:37 / km

Afternoon run on Coottha. Up what's left of toilet block and down through Simpsons falls. nice afternoon to be out.

Saturday Jun 13, 2015 #

Running long 1:30:00 [3]

Long run with Clare and Katelyn. Very cruisey pace. all rushed off afterwards - I had an OQ planning meeting for the 2016 event calendar. good meeting, and in two hours we achieved what took 3 months by email at the end of last year.

Running hills (Anzac Park TT) 27:51 [4] 5.2 km (5:21 / km) +260m 4:17 / km

Nearly bailed on training, but dragged myself out anyway. figured I'd run the time trial course so I didn't just end up bludging. pretty good time considering no warm up and didn't really try.

Note

totally stuffed when I got home from a big day of field work. I had intended to go to yoga, but I was too tired and hungry. did some stretching instead.

Running intervals 20:00 [5]

10*400m on 2mins on SMT oval. Nearly bailed on this as I had been feeling pretty flat all day, but figured I'd just do as many as I could and see where that got me. As it turned out I think it was one of the faster sets I've done of these. also noticed that it took a few longer than usual to go anerobic at the end of the efforts. took an extra 30 secs before the last one as I was feeling a little bit pukey at the proper start time. the extra rest made the start of the last interval feel awesome, but by the second turn made no difference at all.
88, 87, 85, 86, 85, 86, 85, 87, 90, 87

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

right knee feeling a bit puffy and unhappy during the day, and a bit warming up and warming down, but no problem at all while running fast.
I was thinking that it didn't like soft ground, but I suspect it may also be my old running shoes, which I did the long run on the weekend in - which set it off again. It had been find after nz and that was very soft ground, but all in o shoes.

Running 39:00 [3] 6.4 km (6:06 / km)

run from lake boomanjin to the southern end of the great walk. nice cruise, trending downhill. small detour to look at a sandblow. knee a little puffy.
lost the topgear challenge against Dan.

Saturday Jun 6, 2015 #

Running long 2:22:00 [3] 22.0 km (6:27 / km)

long run with Dan on Fraser island. not sure when Dan last ran that far, but I think he was inspired by option b which was to walk at small child pace.
ran from m12 road crossing into valley of the giants and the side tracks to look at some big trees. I took the slightly longer option and ran out to the beach at poyungan valley and up to our campsite. Dan went back out the great walk track to the car.
the track was awesome for running. Sandy and soft enough to be easy running but very few patches that were too soft. nice and cool in the rainforest.
spent the run out scheming how to run the whole great walk over a (long) weekend.

hot yoga. lots of leg strength which was a bit hard.

Orienteering race 1:26:00 [4] 8.8 km (9:46 / km)

qb3 long. otakinini topu. too much orienteering. couldn't find 3 in the low vis despite doing laps of the hillside. then hit the wall big time. walked a fair bit through the thinnings and gave up a few times, but kept talking myself into keeping going. very wobbly by the time I finished but aislinn rescued me with a coke.
time for a break.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
