Running 45:00 [3]

cruise home from work. in the dark again. was getting good at leaving at 5, but failed today.

Monday Sep 27, 2010 #

Note

spent 5 hrs in adelaide airport waiting for a flight home. nearly didn't get that either in the end as they only just got us out before curfew. got home at 2.30am... so not particularly functional today. feel like I have a hangover, despite no alcohol. fail.

Gym 40:00 [3]

light gym session and lots of stretching.

Orienteering race (SA long champs) 1:10:12 [5] 9.0 km (7:48 / km) +300m 6:41 / km

SA long at Mack's Creek. Good classic race course today, with lots of route choice - pick your combo of hills, green and long track running. went straight on 1, little tracks to the left on 4, left on 5 and the track to the right on 7. ran the first half on my own, but then caught Mace on 5-6, struggled to keep up on the track to 7, but then was ok once we were back in the green. also caught Jas at 7, and had a good little train going. picked up Jenny as well, but then they all got past when I decided that the control I could see in the gully was too low, and headed back up the hill. eventually decided that I was clearly an idiot and went and punched it, and spent the rest of the course playing catch up again... or not quite - still 50m or so behind Jas and Mace at the finish.
Good run except for the miss on 10, and was in the hurt box the whole way. pleasantly surprised to take another win.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

bit longer warm up to help get yesterday's run out of my legs, and a decent warm down to help stop my legs cramping so much on the plane.

Orienteering race (Aus middle champs) 35:09 [5] 4.9 km (7:10 / km) +180m 6:04 / km

Middle champs at 'Lady Alice Goldfield', a really interesting area with lots of mining ruins, including old stone houses. reasonably detailed area, but good visibility meant that it wasn't super technical. the course was set to make the most of it, with 23 controls and heaps of direction changes. had a steady run, and gradually increased the intensity. one small miss when I was a bit high on 11. slightly off line on another couple, but would have only been a few seconds in it. had blair for pacing for a big chunk of the course as the mens course had quite similar controls. struggled a fair bit on the hills.
pretty pleased with my run, especially to avoid doing anything silly, which would have been so easy on that course. my first thought when they announce that I had the fastest time was that I must have missed a control, but all good. pleased to take the win - 2 1/2 years since the last one.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Running 45:00 [1]

joined my uncle and his mate for their morning jog around lane cove. nice tour and nice chat, but very easy pace. not such a bad thing cos I spent the rest of the day doing remote area water sampling.

Yoga 1:30:00 [2]

another round of bikram yoga, after a long day of field sampling. a bit tougher than yesterday, probably because I wasn't as well hydrated after a day in the field, and I was a bit tired.

Yoga 1:30:00 [2]

bikram yoga. found a yoga studio down the road from where I'm staying in sydney, and given that I've been finishing work after dark, and my hip has been playing up again, I decided to give their intro membership a go. first time doing bikram yoga, and the heat was a bit of a shock when I walked in the room. was fine after a few minutes thou. sweated litres, but felt great at the end.

Orienteering race 43:52 [5] 7.86 km (5:35 / km) +150m 5:06 / km

Cottons paddock state event. slow start to the morning. had a work bbq last night, which involved extensive sampling of Tracey's single malt collection. surprisingly un-hungover, but still not particularly spritely.
some particularly stupid comments form stupid old people in the loo queue "looks really fast here, I recon someone might run 50mins for the long course!" dickhead.
started a couple of minutes ahead of kurt, and was trying to run hard to delay the seemingly inevitable passing, but still had a minute or so at the end. control placements were all quite easy, so cruised around without any trouble.... except for the hurt on the long, but not very steep hills.
clive ran 37 and kurt, mark and mark were all 40-41, so pretty happy to be that close in such a quick area.

Running 30:00 [3]

warm up and control collection

Note

will be in sydney for work this week. staying in artarmon/lane cove. any tips for good runs from there?

Running 1:07:00 [3]

run from Clare's, with Clare (for 15mins), Kirra (for 40mins) and Emily, for all. was planning on doing a bit longer, but right hammy was tightening up in a way that usually preceeds sciatic yuckiness, so called it quits earlier. bit of a cooler morning than we have had in a while.
highlight was the rye bread from clare's breadmaker - super yummy!

Running 45:00 [3]

run home from work, with mark from roma st to toowong. possibly a little faster than I would have run by myself.

Running 46:00 [3]

plod home from work. stupid number belt thing I carry my phone in didn't sit properly, so I had to carry it and it gave me the shits. usually I tuck it into my shorts, but the ones I was wearing today must have been too light material.

Gym 40:00 [4]

gym with Dan. mainly core work, some extra arm stuff, and some squats.
as the gym is next to pizza capers we're working our way through the menu. tonights may be the best pizza ever. its going to be hard to move on.

Orienteering long 1:21:00 [4] 9.0 km (9:00 / km) +340m 7:34 / km

OY at Cotswold. nice course, but tough at the start, with heaps of climb in the first part. still sore, and struggled on the climbs. the second 2/3 of the course didn't have too many climbs, but quite a few vague compass legs across the plateau, which I usually stuff up on this map. legs started to feel better, and somehow managed to stay on line and hit all the controls really well. feet started to fall apart with big blisters in my arches, and then Olly came past - not too quick, but with still half the course to go and very sore feet I just couldn't run any faster. made it around the rest ok. just a bit slow cos of my feet. was a bit amused to see a few people trying to shoo away the feral kangaroo at the last control.
found 2 ticks so far. neither had bit me yet luckily.

Running long 1:20:00 [3]

Longish run from Rachels place, with Rachel, Katelyn, Clare, Wendy, Mat and Mark. Run around the lake. still very sore, and struggled.

Running 46:00 [3]

Staggered home from work. sore and slow.

Gym 2:30:00 [4]

Tamara dragged me along to her gym class at the boys grammar gym. first hour was full on strength work - all the kind of evil stuff I used to be able to do when I was 14. not so good now. then we could stuff around and work on different skills. managed a couple of backsaults without a spot which was really cool (last one of those was when I was at school), and tamara tried to teach me some new trampoline tricks. heaps of fun, but I'm going to hurt so much tomorrow (actually hurt quite a lot now!)

Wednesday Sep 8, 2010 #

Note
