easy run.

Running hills 5:00 [5]

6 x hills. (about 40 - 50 secs each)
part of my plan for getting rid of my hip problem. last year when I was training with pat clohessys squad I was doing heaps of short hill sprints, so I decided to try doing these a couple of times a week and seeing if they improve my running efficiency/core stability and therefore stop my hip hurting.
and of course they will help me run faster.

first 3 were good, next 3 not so much.

remembered as I struggled home that I haven't run for 2 days cos I've been feeling a bit crap. doing intervals probably wasn't so smart.

good class. first half was a bit easy and boring, but then it got really hard.

I feel like I'm getting sick - bit of a headache and temperature, swollen throat etc. everyone else in my house is already sick. Do I do the sensible thing and not train in the hope that I don't get sick (bit late now), or don't get it as bad... but probably just delay the inevitable.

or do I run anyway and speed up the whole process?

Training at Race Elements. Kathy is still sick so had to train by myself again. Had a bloody awful headache - probably just dehydrated from yesterday, but it made training not much fun. Bec filled me up with endura, so I'm better now. Wussed out of a few things at the end cos I was in too much pain.

spent a few hours clearing mtb trails at gap creek. cleared vietnam from the highwood rd entrance to the top of bronwens. I recon about 3/4 of the trees are down in that area. heaps of work left to do!

long run from Clares place. decent sized group today, including Dan and Kirra. through gap creek, which has been closed due to storm damage. Did the same run as 2 weeks ago, but took 20mins longer. heaps of tracks covered in fallen trees, and tracks and creeks washed out. for a while there was so much fallen stuff that there wasn't even enough space between to start running again.
found the trail care tent at gap creek reserve where they were organising trail cleanup - handing out little hand saws and pruners. totally useless - chainsaws required!!

Orienteering race 20:17 [5] 3.3 km (6:09 / km)

Park O at southbank. fun running round in all the crowds. a few controls weren't really where the map said they would be, so wasted a bit of time searching. and the run across the bridge was totally pointless - didn't even have to look for the control at the other end.

physio again today with crazy needles. 2 weeks between visits might have been a bit much cos my hip has been really sore the last couple of days. feeling heaps better now though, but i'll skip training today to give it all a chance to settle down.

training at race elements. cos of the flooding etc I was Becs only client today, and Kathy was home sick, so it was a pretty quiet day at the gym. New programme this week, and its really hard.

anzac park time trial. all on my own today as wendy bailed again. pissweak I recon.
felt awful running. still hopeless on the hills. time was probably a bit better than 2 weeks ago. had to take a detour around a lake that had appeared at the bottom of the first hill, and again on the way back.

cyclones team meeting turned into cyclone cleanup. biddys house came off ok (pool ended up under a foot of water, but it all drained into next-doors yard after a few hours). after the worst of the storm we ended up on clean up dutys - helping a couple of houses get unflooded, and cleaning up fallen branches. biddy and mat went on a pizza mission, which took about an hour to get out of the gap.

the storm itself was pretty crazy - awesome wind, and hail hitting the windows so hard it smashed (fortunately the windows didn't - unlike some other houses). The only thing that survived outside was biddys gargoyle on the front fence.
drive home out of the gap was an adventure - weaving through fallen trees on waterworks rd. powerlines fallen everywhere (and a shreaded water tank strung in the powerline!). cars crushed under fallen trees, and the bridge on waterworks rd was partially under water.

Park O at St Peters. Didn't do a long run this morning cos I was at a wedding. Decided that champagne is far more detrimental to orienteering performance than a morning long run. legs were totally dead and had a bit of a headache.

those few easy days worked their magic, and todays run felt very easy again. ran the first 15mins with helen - she did ok and ran at a reasonable pace, just sounded like she was going to die any second.
cruised the rest and got rained on in the last 15mins, but still finished the run a little bit quicker than ususal. nice.

mtb ride at daisy hill. bike was making very unhealthy noises, so cut it short. taking it to the shop tomorrow!

run leg of the not-the-noosa-tri. was going good for the first lap, but dropped a minute on the second lap - just not enough fast stuff lately!

Orienteering race 27:22 [4] 5.0 km (5:28 / km)

park O at UQ. course was a bit frustrating, with heaps of hidden controls, and legs that went straight across out of bounds areas, or buildings with unmarked/illegal passages. legs were pretty dead - started slow and got slower, and got smashed by matty doyle on the way to the finish.

Anzac Park time trial. wanted to run a minute quicker than last week, and did. felt heaps better on the downs especially - not so unco this time. still 2 mins off pb for this run though so lots more work to do!

city lights tour. from uni, over green bridge, down to southbank and back around the river to uni. nice run, but legs hurt by the end from running on hard stuff all the way.

went to the mtb 6hr at canungra... and didn't ride. Dan, Simon and Trav were racing in a single speed team, so Bec and I (Kirra had to stay home and study), went as cheer squad. put signs up all over the course, took photos, and yelled abuse/encouragement at everyone. fun day out.

long run with the group from Clares place. Thor and I did 80mins. had planned to do 90, but was stuffed enough after that. pretty hot day, so great to be able to jump in the pool at Clares place at the end.

Cycling 1:35:00 [1] 22.0 km (4:19 / km)

Rode into the park event in the city with mum (who only just got her first bike). slow, but we made it!

Orienteering race 26:08 [5] 4.8 km (5:27 / km)

Park O at City Gardens/QUT. had fun, but nav was a bit hopeless - forgot to figure out which direction I was leaving about 2/3 of controls. map was a bit wrong in a few places (damn QUT keeps building new things!), and my legs stopped working about half way round.
I think I'm running through the background of about 20 wedding photos.
