Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

control picking and pairs relocation (with mark, after krystal bailed) at passchendale. picking the good and bad areas is a bit random on the old passchendale map - not surprising given that its older than all bar 3 of the people on the camp! the rock mapping is still good though, and well simplified.
the area I put the control picking in turned out to be quite nice, and even mostly pretty runnable. could do with a fire through to clean out some of the fallen timber though.
the area with the relocation exercise was pretty crappy - totally infested with blackberry which made it not so fun.
foot was pretty much the same as yesterday - good that it didn't get any worse after a bit day of running. been using my newer o shoes - inov8 oroc 280s and I think the extra support in those is really good at the moment. the spikes were pretty skittish on the dry rock which made for some nervous moments

Orienteering 3:15:00 [3]

Cyclones weekend camp. dalmoak, wilmonts waterholes and brooklands paddock.
control picking at dalmoak - pretty hopeless at the start, really struggled to navigate, run, or navigate while running. too much summer rain have turned it into a grass-seed fest. started to get it together in the end. farmer John (with 2 dogs on the back of his motorbike) dropped by when we'd finished training. he was pretty keen for a long chat.

second training of the day was to check out wilmonts waterholes with Mark. its going to be where we set/control the easter prologue. the area looks great, but again has too much grass at the moment. will hope for a dry summer next year and/or a lot of cows to eat it all! mainly looking at possible assembly areas and the more interesting terrain. looks good!

third exercise was the 'night o' course at brooklands, except that everyone ran it early (in the afternoon) so they could go get some proper dinner in stanthorpe. went into some pretty vague areas and would have been really tricky at night.

made it into town for dinner (with a phone ahead to get Mat to order). pub grub in stanthorpe - all class!

Note

managed quite a lot of running on my dodgy foot - the few more weeks off seem to have done it some good. it was a bit niggly towards the end of each session, but not bad hurt like it has been. hopefully i'm all good to start training properly again now!

Orienteering 12:30 [3] 2.0 km (6:15 / km)

Ran the short course at the cyclones sprint at UQ. we'd run out of long maps and I wasn't sure how my foot would go anyway. course was good, but foot was hurting at the end.
the event itself was possibly the biggest stuffup of an event I've witnessed. the organisational team totally failed to consider the fact that they might need controls, si units, computer, or any of the other paraphernalia that might be used at an event. krystal did managed to have maps printed, and after a ring around for some gear the race did eventuate. very embarrassing for the cyclones, but hopefully a good lesson for some of the squad members that wendy and I aren't going to hold everyones hand anymore, or take the heat for their fuckups.

Note
slept:5.0 (injured) (rest day)

foot is better, but still a bit sore. brain hurts from barely sleeping, and working the rest of the time. trog is a depressing reminder that I currently have no life. looking forward to the end of Feb!

Note
(injured)

visit to Syd the witch-doctor (house of pain) to get my foot/ankle fixed. early results are promising - my ankle moves normally again (but still feels a bit bruised). one of the most painful visits so far.

Note

Its been a busy weekend for realestate for us - we had an offer accepted on this -

http://www.realestate.com.au/property-unit-qld-too...

featuring excellent proximity to running and riding locations. lucky we haven't unpacked much!

Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: Vibram 5 fingers - speed

short run in the vibrams. foot/ankle was a bit sore - its the tendon that runs behind the ankle bone on the outside, and that part of my ankle all feels pretty jammed up.

Gym 10:00 [3]

strength work when I got back from my run. mainly pushups and plank things. started with max. pushups - 50.

Note

2 days of house moving (to La Grange) - totally stuffed, and no way I was training at the end. the foot hasn't liked all the lifting and carrying heavy stuff much either. looking forward to some new spots to run.

Running 28:00 [3]
(injured)

run into the city along coro drive bike path. foot started hurting a bit too much so turned around. nice night to be out, pity my stupid foot won't cooperate.

Running 45:00 [3]

night run at coottha, from wendys. with clare, wendy, finnish import mikko and the usual crew. nice evening out - cool and lightly raining. took the shorter option again tonight as my foot is still a bit sore, but kind of regreted it cos there's not too much to the run after the initial run up the mountain. did a couple of surges on the hills through bardon on the way back.
dinner after with wendy, which saved me from another round of bbq leftovers.

gym - core work, arms, squats

Sunday Feb 6, 2011 #

Running 30:00 [3]

post party run to the lower portals, with james, helen, olly and mat. (and a lot of walkers). stupidly hot - we had started pretty late, and ended up walking the hills so we didn't die. swim was awesome, and walked back out.
