Run race 18:00 [4] *** 2.0 km (9:00 / km)
spiked:5/7c (injured)
At the moment it's feeling like two steps forward, two steps back, and today seems like a significant reverse. Woke up with a stiff back (not something I've previously experienced with this injury), but it was OK warming up and I hoped for the best. That wasn't to be, though - the warm-up wasn't hilly but the course was, and as soon as it became steeply uphill (through 2) I was essentially unable to run. I pressed on for a few controls in the hope that it would warm up (3 to 7 were either flat or downhill), but climbing out of 7 it was just as bad and I decided I'd had enough. It was worse through the rest of the day than it was three weeks ago, too, which makes me concerned it's a more significant problem than I'd suspected. Will have to try to get it looked at this week, but it doesn't make me optimistic about my prospects for next weekend (which weren't that great to start with).
Quirk of the day was that going from where I was staying in Ballarat to the event, I went past not one but two roads carrying my (family) name. I think I've already told the story of the first one on an industrial estate in Wendouree (the Laminex factory is still there, although the family interest in it was taken over about 30 years ago). No idea about the second one, near Coghill's Creek.
