Running 2:26:00 [1] 17.0 mi (8:35 / mi)
After being lazy yesterday and taking the whole day off. Decided to run long today. Met up with a group to run part of the Greenway trail. Ended up liking his idea of running point to point so we went in a couple of cars up to the start in Damascus and ran back. Since he just had his other knee operated on he ended up being support meeting us at mile 8.5 with water, food, etc. Stopped briefly to chat and continued on. Ended up running being lead dog going entirely alone except the first one mile when others kindly suggested that I pass them and go ahead. Started out with long sleeves and tights on and was shivering for about three miles before I warmed up. The air quickly warmed and after 11.5 miles I stopped at my car and did the quick change, about 2 mins, into shorts, singlet and dry sneakers. The streams were so high from the recent storms ran with wet feet almost for the entire run. Thought I would just add a little loop turned into another 5.5 miles. Had to hurry out of there to try and make the O meet that now had new start times due to the time change. Went home, which is conveniently situated in the middle, had a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee and back out the door.

Wanted to run some at marathon pace so went to the local O meet at the University of Maryland. Had some problems with the first control trying to get the feel of the map plus not sure how tough it would be to see the controls. After a couple knew the controls would be easy to see thought they might be a tad hidden to discourage students from removing them. Tim caught me early and I kept wanting to go around him careful about pushing my pace as I kept telling myself not to race with the upcoming marathon on Saturday. Thought I could manage both courses but with the somewhat long morning run decided this was enough since the second course would probably take another half hour at this effort. Felt like this was about four miles at marathon pace. May try to get some swimming in by the end of the day. Legs seem to be OK since it is only 21 days post. Still not sure if the grapefruit and orange size tumors (benign) (yes, there are two) are the cause of my backpain.
