Rode out to the Orienteering event at Stumpy Gully

ORIENTEERING ◪ race 36:54 [5] 6.9 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Teva #1

Garmin 7.18 Local O event at Stumpy Gully, gave Clara 2 mins a km (14min) head start, was going strong but could see no Clara, started to worry that I was going to lose the showdown, then I finally saw her with 1 control to go, and to make my job easier, she went to high, and I got it 1st. Didn't beat her in by much (-:

MTB 28:00 [3] 10.9 km (2:34 / km)
shoes: Nike Bike shoes #1

Rode home from O event, took a short cut, saved 600 m (and 5 mins?) must be down hill

FARTLEK 33:00 [4]

With Emu, up Lawson St and back to Golf course, did 5x200 on, 200 off using the Garmin. Garmin makes it easy, run down a fairway during a on, then climb back up one during a off. Did it easy as leon is racing in the tan relays tomorrow.

Note

Emu did a 9.15 at Olympic Park during the week, getting to close to my PB, oh well, he will get it one day

ROAD BIKE 1:30:00 [3] 45.0 km (2:00 / km)

Got home early enough from Melbourne to go for a ride, Gooseneck and home along Storys Rd, dropped into see Toph, but he wasn't home, doesn't answer his emails and his phone is turned of, wonder where he is.

Suprisingly cold (or cool) out on the bike

RUN 35:00 [3]

Up Diamond Hill and along the Bushland Trail near the res fence, down Ausfeldii Drive, up the hill opposite where my legs almost stopped and home. Tried to not go too slow up most of the hills. Diamond Hill is so nice after a rain

Note

Feel like I missed out on something normally do a bike on a Wednesday, will have to do that tomorrow after I get home from deliveries

ADVENTURE RACE race 3:30:00 [4]

Teva adventure race with Dion and Liggo. A fun, well organised event with a map that was really good. Started out OK and it didn't take long before Dion and I was flying over the handlebars within seconds of each other over different logs. Did the MTB first and, thanks to a decent ride, were second into the first challenge section. Managed that OK and was also second into the second challenge, which was where our problems began. First we went off 180 degrees in the wrong direction on the Mens Health challenge, then we completely cocked up the mental challenge (who is in which coloured tent with which partner ? This cost us at least 10 minutes and ultimately the race). Somehow were still in second back into the transition to the orienteering, but got overtaken in the next set of challenges. Spent much more time tied by a rope to Dion ond Liggo than I really felt comfotrable with. Took off on the orienteering 12 minutes behind the lead and 2 minutes behind second. Didn't feel to bad on the hill, but Liggo was stronger. We caught up about 7 minutes on the lead team and overtook second after they made a mistake on the last and we took a risk hitting a track end through the green.

Fortunately the team that beat us was mixed. Well, fortunately in the sense that that made us first male team, but unfortunate in the sense we got beaten by a chick. But we scored $200 shoes and $100 gift voucher each so that was OK.

MTB 10:00 [2]

Easy roll around with Dion after the race

ORIENTEERING ◪ 39:46 [3] 6.3 km (6:19 / km)

Garmin 6.93 Bendigo event on Diamond Hill, a large part of the map was represented by hactures, helped to know the area, but by the end, I was reading them OK

ORIENTEERING ◪ 18:00 [1]

ORIENTEERING ◪ race (Franklin Gorge) 51:40 [5] 8.9 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Teva #1

Garmin 9.6 Let Leon start, gave him 5 mins, then set out to see if I could bridge the gap. Saw him for the 1st time with 4 controls to go, went different ways to 2nd last, but he still had me by a little bit, he then saw me the 1st time, then I had no chance, he bet me in by 20 secs. Happy with my run, Bruce cracked 50 for fastest. Impressed by Leons races this weekend, he ran all on his own today, and also for the last half of yesterday.

WARM UP/DOWN 12:00 [2] 1.2 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Teva #1

Easy as it goes run to the Start (800m) and then 400m warm down with Dave at an even slower pace )-;

ORIENTEERING ◪ (Putting out controls etc) 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Teva #1

Vic relays today, and I had to get the SI units out, so decided to start early, like before 6, so got some Jukola training in as well. I was out there in the dark, merrily clipping the SI boxes into the stands, when I thought, something is not right? Then it hit me, I was not putting out any flags, and they weren't even in the car, they were back at home. Dropped the remaining SI boxes at the control I was up to, ran back to the car, drove home, picked up flags and drove back, took 30 mins to get back to were I was up to. At these it was light now, didn't need the headlamp any longer. Got going again and about 6 contols later, I noticed that I had lost an SI unit, nothing I could do now, except put out all the remaining units plus flags.

Drove home again, had breakfast and loaded the car with all the maps etc that is needed to run the SI tent, had to go into the forest the long way as I had to put out the replacement SI unit that I had lost, also put the water control out. Got to the assembly area by 9, got the event direction signs out and my 1st helpers that I was going to meet at 10 arrived at 9.30, so I hadn't lost any real time.

Event went really well, maps looked good and the controls seemed to be in the right place, Liggo and a few others seemed to have some difficulty telling the difference between a Spur (163) and a Dam wall (138), I suppose that they are both "up" features.

3 comments that I heard about the day, 1, Not enough toilets, even though the biggest line I saw there was 6 people, 2, Controls splits not far enough apart & 3, 4th last control on the cliff was in the wrong spot, but this was only from 1 person of the 40+ people that went to that control today.

Todays event used 32 controls, 6 different courses with 358 variations

MTB race (Orienteering) 1:19:46 [3] 29.0 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Nike Bike shoes #1

1st MTBO in a long time, I needed to check out the 2009 oz champs area, so this event allowed me a weekend away from home. Forest was in lovely condition, and the track fair and fast, map scale 1;25000 based on the rogaine map, so not much detail, but more than enough for MTBO

Note

Checking out the area for 2009, talked to the Gun Club re use of there area, sounds promising, great assembly area, gun club will cater and no shooting on the day, bonus

ORIENTEERING ◪ race (Local Series @ Mandurang) 40:29 [5] *** 6.9 km (5:52 / km)
ahr:153 max:173 spiked:9/11c shoes: Teva #1

Garmin 7.67 Started out well, I had Big Ev 2 mins and Clara 16 mins in front, got Clara near 4 but never saw Ev, but from the Post Mortem, I had made time on him in the 1st half. Faded a litttle in the last half.
Big Ev got me by 31 secs, I suppose that balances the ledger.
