orienteering - General race (Ottawa O-cup long) 2:24:10 [4]

Forgot to add a post race analysis or anything like that of my ottawa O-cup races, so I'm planning on adding them as soon as I find O-map binder (I've written them down in there).

Again I wasn't feeling great today, but I decided it was my last race for a while so I might as well continue running the m20 course. My race went pretty well until 5 (no major mistakes just some small route choice errors mainly), until I went the opposite way on the butterfly loop (I caught this when I was almost at 7). Then to 7 I took a bearing straight through (I feel like I would follow down below the hill, near the fence and come up between the hills if I could change my route). I felt really good on the long leg till I screwed up (not even completely sure how) and eventually relocated on the power line. Next control I took a bearing , but didn't think to check off the small hill on the way. I felt really confident to 11, and also 13, but I just died and had no energy left (forgot to bring a gel). I took a bearing again to 14 and planned on catching myself on the trail however got messed up in the thick vegetation and hit the one to the south east, eventually relocating. to 15 I attempted to run hard but I hit the creek beyond the one I needed (also thought contours were going other way). I felt great to 17, but then to 17 I was just done I went through the 2 marches and instead of following along the contours I went a bit up the hillside following along to hit a knoll to a bit west of the actual control (miss-punched at this control), and continued on too the finish.
Altogether my head was just not in it, and I made numerous route choice errors or missed some features I could have used when looking at my map. On the bright side I stayed fairly composed and didn't lose too much more focus when I made mistakes.

race (Gryphon's meet) 18:22 [5] 5.0 km (3:40 / km)

First x-country race of the season, my legs were a bit sore during and before the race, but other than that I feel pretty good with my results.

ARX 30:00 [3]

Easy training tonight putting out controls somewhere on a blank map and collecting someone's control.
