orienteering - General race (farsta) 44:36 [4] 6.9 km (6:28 / km)

A good finish to a good week of racing. Altogether it was a pretty clean race, I made a few mistakes, like on the 2nd last control where I was confused on which feature it was on and and kept running around the green vegetation when I should have cut in. Other than that I made a few small bobbles due to trying to push hard and race through the woods, rather then focus on orienteering when others had taken a slightly more direct route choice. I also found myself being pulled off my route choice occasionally by others. I had pretty good compass bearings which I have been trying to improve and also good flow in and out of the checkpoints due to planning ahead.

orienteering - General race (COC's long) 2:48:00 [4]

The race didn't start out too great, my legs were sore and on top of that I made a mistake on the first checkpoint mistaking the re-entrant to the right for the one the checkpoint was in. I had really good smooth routes to 3 and 4 but after that I began loose myself. All the other controls I kept messing up in some way or another, typically because I was trying to simplify a map that already was missing some of the details in the terrain and on top of that I never really adjusted to the scale some distances seeming bigger then others in real life on the map. I felt fairly good with control 11, all the way up the final attackpoint where I lost a whole bunch of minutes because the vegetation was off, and it look like there was another slight pit or re-entrant to the right. All together it was a pretty depressing first long, but I did have a few strengths; relocation, on compass bearings I was improving looking up and far immediately, and I also kept with the course no matter how badly I was doing until I thought I have reached the 3 hour limit.

orienteering - General race (COC's sprint) 18:01 [5] 4.05 km (4:27 / km)

I felt that today's race went great. My goals had been to run harder than usual, which I did (even though there's still room for improvement, partially since my legs were sore beforehand), and to use the control descriptions. Not doing this resulted in a small mistake early on where I went to the wrong side of the wall, but I ended up learning from this and checking control descriptions on some of the checkpoints on walls or fences later on in the race.
