Thoughts on orienteering this past week.
Map simplification. I am way too "good" at this. I oversimplify like there's no tomorrow. This strategy works *very* well for bland terrain, such as was found on the long and especially the sprint. Middle on the other hand did not work.
Rocks. ties in with the first point. I just don't know how to read dense rock outcroppings, so I simplify them out and get lost. Just need to practice this type of terrain more, but there isn't that much locally...
Athleticism. Not sure how I manage to always be in decent shape without trying, but it leads me to not push myself to become actually fit, and thus fast. I need to find some sort of motivator for training, since orienteering 3 times a year isn't frequent enough goal testing.
