orienteering race 41:44 [3] *** 4.0 km (10:26 / km) +25m 10:07 / km
10c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon

Short course, interval start.
Quite a disaster, as I was last by quite a few minutes. I was doing fine through the course, in 3rd or 4th place, until going to 9 (a common control I had been to as 4). Distacrted by a runner to my left, crossed a trail without seeing it, then had pictured in my mind (having been tot he control before) a re entrant in some forest....which was actually number 5, so was not looking for the correct feature (knoll). Coupled with being unsure of the distance and then seeing some open marshy area, which I could not find on the map (it was off the map to the SW), I turned back to find the trail. Got that, but mislocated where I was along it, went in again, noticed some boulders, which I should not have seen, corrected a bit, but not enough, saw the marsh again, but this time noticed the building I had used earlier going to this control, and compassed to it . So annoyed I even lost my way to the trail to 10, hesitated trying to find myself on the map ( I was actually doing fine), ......
Should have stopped as soon as I knew things were off.....let the other runner go, and maybe turned back to find the trail....but at least stop and think, look at the clue, take a breath, look at the map and refigure a route.

Forgot my watch in Uppsala, so no track.
Long mass start at OK Tyr event south of Karlstad.
course specs 6.2 flat, lumpy, sometimes thick, woods. 10C, damp, clouded.
Unable to keep track of the time, I missed the mass start ( I had to put on a bib number, which are hung at the start, check a list, find the bib on a line, attach).
My run went well though, and in the end I passed the leaders just before the last woods control, and got a nice framed print from a watercolor by a local artist

re run of my H70 day 3 course of O Ringen to control 6. Only site I was unsure of was 2, the others I was sure of, and some had streamers attached.
Executed and corrected the disaterous leg 4, but the swamp was full, so a bit chilly there.
