Completed the Model Middle here today. For about half of the course, Jake and I ran each leg individually and then analyzed our routes. The second half was basically a slower version of a race--but it accomplished the goal of getting that basic fluidity back.
A few points of analysis concerning terrain and technique:
-Logging trails or "rides" are ubiquitous here. Probably a useful catching feature, but they can also look like actual trails or, on the other hand, ditches. But at least familiarization was achieved.
-Vegetation is very distinct. Dark green stands out immensely and swamps are only green, marshy grass. So knowing both will certainly aid me.
-Runnability is excellent; but compass use should be frequent. The terrain is flat and fast (for the middle at least); but this can also lead to running in slightly wrong direction. So staying in contact with the map and compass is crucial.
