Rogaining race 23:36:54 [4] *** 85.0 km (16:40 / km)
40c slept:0.0 shoes: ASIC Gel-Kayano 19

Aw yeah. My 3rd 24-hour attempt and really the first successful completion.

Some nav problems around mid-afternoon and 104 on the hill took a couple of runs at around 4am. Otherwise plodded it through. Greg's navigation through the night really was magical though.

He is the "broad spur/knoll/gully" whisperer.

I felt great throughout though vagued out around 7pm and 2am and was really sleeping on my feet ~5.30am (I suffer at pre-dawn! But completely perk up to 100% come sunshine).

We were elated to hit our option [B] route (score >2600) before 9am -- at 6am as we hit some dense-ish shrub and some steepness thought it might not happen. Picked up a bunch of spares around the HH before heading in.

We wanted to run for a last 20-point control to push us over 2700, but thought not to risk it.

Real slow but steady one -- played it really conservative this time, on our other 2 attempts we'd hit ~2K by midnight and fallen apart after that. I really didn't want to be burnt again. Fitness was generally better this time though, I was probably too conservative early on, and came home feeling fine. We effectively did not run during this event which was stupid. But we did finish this time!

One other note is that both had gotten new shoe couple weeks before but had both done some dozens of pavement-kms in them -- I had *no blisters* whatsoever! No blisters. First long walk I've ever done without them. Greg had none special either which is great considering.

2800 next time :)
