Team Trials long.
My back was quite sore in the morning, and I really wasn't sure I was going to be able to start the race, not to mention get around the course. So I was really, really happy to do the whole race and really feel like I was racing it.
Vido did a really nice job with the course setting, and Fountainhead was lovely as always. I had a pretty good run for the first hour or so, and then ran out of fitness for the last half hour. I was ten minutes behind Joe after an hour, and then lost another 8 minutes over the last half hour.
I was encouraged by glimpses of Will H on the way out of #5 and again on the way out of #7. and then discouraged by the ease with which Eric blew by me on the downhill towards #12.
Overall, it was a lot of fun to race again and to see everybody. I was happy with my decision to skip the sprint in order to be able to run the forest races without further hurting myself.
Also, it was really fun to see the young guys, especially AJ and Joe, have some seriously good races this weekend. Very encouraging and exciting! The trials were very competitive on the men's side, and there are at least three-four guys who did not automatically qualify, who could very plausibly snag a WOC spot, depending on what race slots need to be filled. It's a nice problem for the selectors to have.
A huge thank you to Peggy, Linda, Dave L, Vido, and the QOC crew for making this happen. What a fun weekend!
