Orienteering race 1:15:56 [3] 7.8 km (9:44 / km)
QOC Local Event at Fountainhead East, Red Course.
We were dog-sitting Poppy for the weekend, so I took her out for a cruise around the red course. It was fun to get out onto this part of Fountainhead - I'd never run here before, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Poppy was a good companion, though it took a lot of concentration to keep her passing on the same side of every tree as me. I ended up orienteering essentially one-handed, which led to fewer looks at the map. Good practice, I think, though I also took more trail route choices to minimize the need for dodging trees with a dog.
I felt pretty good for the first half, but then faded a bit. Navigation was ok, but included a couple of 30-second bobbles, and some in decisiveness towards the end of the course.
After I got back, Alli went out on Orange, while Inara and I set up the Animal-O around the registration area. It was quite successful we had about 10 different kids try it, including several who ran it dozens of times. Hoping to make this a regular occurrence at QOC events going forward. Thanks NEOC/NavGames for the idea!
