Orienteering race 31:53 [4] 4.57 km (6:59 / km) +97m 6:18 / km
ahr:140 max:166

My best run of the week. Went out hard and kept the navigation together for most of the race. A 15-second mistake on 14 and a couple of hesitations, but clean otherwise. I ended up ahead of Forest in our week-long battle, by 4 minutes over eight days of racing. So fun and motivating for both of us to race each other all week!

COC Long, M35+.

I had a stable, if not spectacular, run. I never seemed to find a faster speed, and the entire run felt quite plodding from start to finish. No mistakes over 30 seconds to speak of. Forest was impressive, beating me 3.5 minutes. He had higher speed today and stayed quite clean as well. This leaves me about 2:45 behind in the overall standings headed into the final day of competition.

COC Sprint, M35+ (same course as M21E)

Lots of fun! Another forest sprint, this time in a mostly semi-open area with a bunch of trails and depressions. I ran well, losing a bit of steam on the long leg to 12, but clean otherwise. Won the class fairly comfortably.

COC Relay

We made a 'family' team: Danny Riley - me - Alli

Danny had some trouble on leg 1, as did many other top guns, and came in over 6 minutes behind Adam Woods in the lead, with a handful of other teams in between.

I set off in pursuit and ran quite well, catching up to all the teams ahead of us and handing off to Alli in joint first place with the Woods family.

Alli had a solid run and brought us into the finish as the 2nd team overall, and 1st in our category. Lots of fun!!

Running 30:00 [2]

Various runnings: warmup; run from the finish to the arena; running Course 1 with Inara.

WCOC Middle - M35

This went poorly. I had no confidence in my footing through all the deadfall, which slowed me down a lot and led me to choosing bad routes several times. On top of that, I made a bad mistake to 3, losing focus, and had to go almost back to 2 to relocate.

Running 25:00 [2]

Warning up plus 'cooldown' of chasing Inara around the kids' course.

Orienteering race 20:44 [4] 3.01 km (6:53 / km)
ahr:156 max:171

WCOC Sprint, M35+ (same course as M21E).

A good run, maybe two 10-second mistakes. I took a safe route to 1 to get into the map, which helped. Good speed to 2 and 3, though I took a big spill coming out of 2, and have a ton of cuts and bruises now.

At 4, I was surprised to see Brian May. He apparently made some mistakes early, and I caught him from three minutes back. We had a great head-to-head battle the rest of the way, which was a lot of fun.

I won M35 and would have been middle of the pack in M21E, about 20 seconds behind Wills Enger and Critchley.
