GNC Day 2 BrownX Classic on Lake Franklin map This felt better navigationally but still very slow. R suggested that I try pace counting and it helped a lot with distance judging - first time I've ever really used pace counting (45-48 double paces / 1 cm (75 m) on map). A bit too high on the ditch to C1 and went east of C2 needing to go down to creek to reorient. Stupidly chose to go through the med green to C11 and definitely lost time. The rest were good - choose the east of the ridge to the low trail and Northwesterly down and then over the spur to the creek for C6; long leg to C8 was good keeping track of where I was with pace counting. 1st in F55+

Georgia Navigator Cup Friday Middle on Lake Delano map of Roosevelt State Park: BrownX (F55+) 1:7500 scale It took me a while to get used to the scale as I have most recently run 1:10,000 and I'm rusty since I haven't been orienteering a lot. Messed up C3 looking in the green patch by the creek that was too close to C2; way overshot C4 and had to come back to the creek to reorient; C5 was good - even beat Pat Meehan to it; decided to go around on the trail to C6 and left the trail at the intermittent stream but was too loosey goosey on the spur between the stream and the ditch and didn't go far enough so had to go back to the stream to reorient; rest were good. Walked the whole way and felt really slow and unsure of my knees. Certainly felt the lack of training for 4 months. 2nd to Diane Kim in field of 2.
