Orienteering race (Flying Pig @ Carter Caves) 1:28:48 [3] *** 3.9 km (22:46 / km) +190m 18:19 / km

Middle Green F course set by Stephanie Ross. By the third race of the weekend, I knew that I was tired on the way to the first control with heavy legs and feet that weren't happy with the frozen ground. I started out moving too far east from the start and needed to correct to C1. PeggyD passed me on the way to C2 and then took a higher route to C3 while I went down to the plateau and ran N to the reentrant with C3. Just before I reached the reentrant, PeggyD ran down it and, looking up the reentrant without looking at the map, I saw a control and ran up to it because PeggyD... The Green F control was actually in the lower part of the reentrant which I would have figured out if I had looked at my map. As I went across the ditch to C4, I heard a boy crying and, after a few seconds, decided I couldn't leave him there so spent a few minutes trying to figure out how he had gotten so far off his course and what the easiest way was for him to get back on it. After sending him up the hill to the trail with the start, I continued on my course. C9, in the cliff and boulder area, was cool as was the route to C10 which went over a natural bridge. I bobbled C10 and didn't take a direct route to C11 but the rest of the course was fine. Overall, a fun course that I should have been faster on.

walk 40:00 [2] ** 1.2 km (33:20 / km)

Walk with Aragorn to see the natural bridges - much more impressive than those at home on the Bruce Peninsula.

Long Green F course by Ben Hart. I felt good about the first 3 1/2 controls and then got caught in the two pond/reentrant parallel puzzle and spent over 50 minutes total on the leg before I figured out what was going on. The rest of the course was fine. I could have cut some of the distance off the C6 to 7 and C8 to 9 legs. Without the huge error, I could have placed third in my class.

Orienteering race (Flying Pig @ Morehead St.) 31:22 [3] *** 2.8 km (11:12 / km)

Sprint Green F set by Mike Minium. Surprisingly complex and fun campus sprint with a few challenging controls. I felt pleasantly strong on the course - mini training seems to be helping.

Y mini training: 0.5 mile intervals supposed to be at HMP-30 sec with 30 sec slow jog + 30 sec standing rest after each. I've had a cold this week and missed Mon. sesion and didn't have a lot of energy tonight. I did 5 at about 10:00 min pace then walked one and finished up with one at 10:24 min pace. The rest of the group did 4 miles total.
