orienteering race 48:00 [4] *** 4.2 km (11:26 / km)

ICO Holliday Park, Indianapolis - long course.
A little less than half of the course was fairly sprinty in open parkland; the remainder was in the woods, much of that with trails, but some steep slopes, and long staircases in a couple places. Damp and very humid, fogged glasses were a constant problem.
Control 12 was down a very overgrown and marshy indistinct path - I lost the path at a sharp bend right where it started (partly distracted avoiding a family with small kids on the main trail at the junction) and probably lost a minute and a half or two minutes getting back to it. Then, at the control, I mis-read the map and ran the trail in the wrong direction. Because of fogged up glasses and terrible footing, I didn't check the map again until I hit the next trail - to find that I had run the opposite direction. Took a good 10 seconds or more evaluating whether to slog back through the awful trail, or take a much longer way around - finally chose the former. Control 12 to control 12 again was a total 3:16 mistake. Ugh!!!
Most of the rest was pretty clean, but very unhappy with the stupid mistakes on 12.
