shadowing a junior (Jordan) on white course. Armco Park. Some running, maybe 50% of the distance.

Armco Park. One of the few really cold days we've had this winter, and moderate winds made it feel even colder, especially crossing the open fields. It wasn't bad once you got moving, though. Although I just loved doing all the wet-foot stream crossings! Actually they were not that bad, and thanks to one last ankle-deep immersion on the run-in to the finish (!!!), I was able to get my shoe laces untied before they froze solid.

WRE Event Advising (2012 US Middle Distance Champs)
test run of a middle distance course, Chatahoochee State Park, GA.
Was there blood? Of course! Wait-a-minute vines and a couple small prickly pear drew a little. But not a lot. And of course there was the obligatory full-body sprawl when a leg went knee-deep in a stump hole. But this was a fun course with pretty fast running and lots of tough navigation. And of course a good splash of red Georgia clay.

setting up activities for UCMS training this afternoon. Hueston Woods.

trail running 10:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

No kids showed up for practice today. Basketball practice was moved earlier so Caleb couldn't make it; Brennan had stayed home sick, Sam and Hunter were busy with the robotics team. Headed to Hueston Woods anyway. Shadowed David_Waller while he did a line-O I had set at Hueston Woods.

6c shoes: Jalas hi-top 2010

Ran a 6 control course David designed on the spur of the moment at Hueston Woods, "Chase the Fox" style. I had to find the right spots and hang a streamer. David gave me two minutes head start, then took off in pursuit. I bobbled #1, lost a few seconds to fix a shoe, and aimed off way too far left, putting me on the wrong side of some miserable unmapped deadfall. Leaving 1 was a dogleg, and I could see David coming into 1 (and he saw me) as I ran to 2, dropped a streamer at 2, and took off over the hill for 3. At 3, there was another sharp turn to the left, and as I was climbing the hill away from it, I saw David coming in on the approach. This was going to be a fun race. Fortunately, I hit 4, 5 and 6 dead on, and David made a mistake going from 4 to 5, so I never saw him again. Entertaining way to get some training in.
