This quickly became a battle of attrition. Control 3 was mis-placed and not found. Between 5 and 6 I ran off the map. The SI box at control 8 was so encrusted with ice that it was impossible to punch. Meanwhile I started off fast for the first couple controls, started to sweat and threw back my hood. Ducking under snow covered bushes, the hood & the back of my neck filled up with snow. Brr. After several falls, the light gloves I was using also were proving inadequate. In the interest of retaining all fingers for future runs and not risking hypothermia when I hit the more open, wind-swept parts of the course, I finally made the wise choice & bailed.

control pickup. Still was difficult with wading thru deep snow and having to get thru briars and honeysuckle bushes that were weighted down with the white stuff.
